BOX SCORE GAME TWO
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University baseball team (15-13, 5-7 PSAC East) split a road PSAC East doubleheader with Shippensburg (21-13, 7-5 PSAC East). Bloomsburg beat the Raiders 11-5 in game one but were edged by one run in game two, 8-7.
Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) improved to 2-2 as he picked up the win in game one against Shippensburg. Offensively,
Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) was 3-for-5 on the day with two walks, two runs scored, and five RBI.
Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) went 6-for-9 and scored three runs.
GAME ONE
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) worked a walk with the bases loaded. Shippensburg responded with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Bloomsburg evened the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning on a
Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) double that drove in two runs along with an RBI triple from Smith.
After a scoreless inning by Shippensburg, the Huskies posted another six runs in the top of the sixth inning on just three hits.
Vince Smarrelli (Mt. Airy, MD/Urbana),
Tim Kurucz (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), Eversole, and Smith all drove in runs while
Josh Schroeder (Scranton/West Scranton) drove in two during the six run inning.
Both teams traded runs before the Huskies clinched an 11-5 win. Bloomsburg starter
Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) picked up his second win of the season as he went five innings with two strikeouts.
Vinny Voorhees (New Hope/New Hope Solebury) threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit.
At the plate Eversole and Smith drove in three RBI apiece while
Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) scored four runs.
Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South),
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson), Kramer, Smarrelli, Kurucz and Schroeder all had two-hit games.
GAME TWO
Bloomsburg's offense continued their success in game two as the Huskies put up a four spot to lead off the game. Smarrelli and Smith both drove in runs in the inning as the Huskies scored four runs on three hits.
Shippensburg cut the Bloomsburg lead to one run in the bottom of the third as they scored three. The following inning the Huskies made up the three runs they lost by scoring three of their own to take a 7-3 lead. A big hit in the inning was an RBI single by Eversole that brought in Kramer and Ravel.
Unfortunately for the Huskies, the Raiders scored five runs on four hits in the bottom half of the fourth inning to take an 8-7 lead.
However, Bloomsburg had their opportunity for a comeback in the seventh inning as Schroeder and Meyer both reached safely on one-hit singles. Bloomsburg would have the tying run at third base and the go ahead run at second but they were stranded as the game concluded in favor the Raiders, 8-7.
Matt Kline (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) was today's starter as he threw 3.1 innings and struck out four batters.
Tyler Hill (Lehighton/Lehighton) came in for relief work, going 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Meyer was Bloomsburg's leader at the plate, going 4-for-5 and scored two runs. Ravel, Eversole and Smith all had two hits apiece.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Wednesday, April 4th as they travel to take on Clarion University in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
