SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV—The Bloomsburg University baseball team scored a run in the top of the 10th inning to beat Shepherd University 6-5 in the last game of the Ram Invitational. Four of Bloomsburg's six runs came with two outs.
No runs were scored in the first three innings by either team but it was the Huskies who scored first in the top of the fourth. Bloomsburg got some help from the Rams as Shepherd committed three errors in the inning.
Josh Schroeder (Scranton/West Scranton) registered Bloomsburg's only RBI and hit in the inning as the Huskies scored two runs.
The Rams were held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning but Bloomsburg would strike for another run in the top of the fifth. With two outs,
Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) doubled to center field which drove in
Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain), putting Bloomsburg ahead 3-0.
Starting pitcher Matt Kiline threw another scoreless inning in the bottom of the fifth. After the third out of the inning,
Vinny Voorhees (New Hope/New Hope Solebury) would come in for relief work for Kline.
Bloomsburg went up 5-0 in the top of the seventh inning. Just like in the fifth, Eversole doubled to center field to bring in two runs. Shepherd responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and eventually tied the game at 5-5 with three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
In the top of the 10th, working with two outs, Bloomsburg came through again for their sixth and final run of the game. Bloomsburg's final run came as
Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) singled and eventually scored on a throwing error.
Tyler Hill (Lehighton/Lehighton) was credited with the win as he shut out the Rams in the bottom of the 10th giving the Huskies a 6-5 win.
Although BU's Kline did not get the win, he threw an exceptional game. He tossed five innings of shutout ball while striking out two and allowing three hits. Eversole drove in three runs while going 2-for-5 at the plate.
Bloomsburg wrapped up the Ram Invitational by going 2-1. The Huskies will be back in action on March 9th as they travel to take on Philadelphia University at 3:00 p.m.
