BOX SCORE GAME ONE
BOX SCORE GAME TWO
WEST CHESTER—On a day the Bloomsburg University baseball team (25-20,12-12 PSAC East) needed a sweep to qualify for the final spot in the PSAC playoffs, the Huskies came up just short as they split a doubleheader with no. 17 West Chester (32-9,16-8 PSAC East). Bloomsburg controlled game one, winning 8-3 but in game two the Huskies let a 4-0 lead get away from them as they fell, 10-6. With the loss, Bloomsburg will miss the PSAC playoffs.
GAME ONE
Bloomsburg took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on RBI singles from
Tim Kurucz (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and
Paul Rosa IV (Wyomissing/Wilson). The following inning,
Keith Meyer (Richboro/Council Rock South) led off with a double which would eventually turn into a run scored as
Vince Smarrelli (Mt. Airy, MD/Urbana) brought him home on a bunt single.
With a 3-0 advantage, the Huskies offensive surge continued as they scored another five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Bloomsburg scored their first run of the inning on a fielder's choice and would score the final four while working with two outs. Aaron Russel drove in one run and
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) brought home another two during Bloomsburg's five run stretch.
Vinny Voorhees (New Hope/New Hope Solebury) picked up the win for the Huskies as he threw seven strong innings, allowing just three runs and striking out three batters. With the win he improves to 4-0 on the season.
The Huskies would give up runs in the following two innings but would hold on to win, 8-3. Meyer finished the day by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Smarrelli chipped in another two runs score along with an RBI on a 2-for-3 day.
GAME TWO
The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Smarrelli single up the middle. Smarrelli's hit drove home
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson), who reached safely on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
Bloomsburg added to their lead in the fourth inning as they picked up another three runs. Nicklas Eversole led off the fourth inning, reaching safely on a throwing error by West Chester's third baseman. A batter later, Kurucz drove Eversole home as he found the gap in right center for a triple.
Rosa would keep the scoring going as he singled to center field to bring home Kurucz. Two batters later, Rosa would score on a sacrifice fly by Meyer to put the Huskies on top, 4-0.
Unfortunately for Bloomsburg, the West Chester bats would come alive in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Golden Rams scored all of their 10 runs in the inning. The Huskies picked up two runs in the top of the sixth but that would be it as they dropped a heartbreaker, 10-6.
With the loss, Bloomsburg is eliminated from PSAC playoff contention as Millersville beat them out for the final spot by half of a game.
