MATCH NOTES
BLOOMSBURG--The 21st-ranked Bloomsburg University wrestling team will host the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Nelson Field House. The match will be the start of a busy weekend for the Huskies who on Sunday will travel to Philadelphia for the Keystone Classic at the Palestra.
SETTING THE SCENE
•This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the teams with the series tied at 3-3.
•During the match the Huskies will honor members of the 1960, 1962 and 1965 teams which won NAIA national titles.
• Bloomsburg dropped to number 21 in this week's USA Today/NWCA/AWN National Division I Coaches Poll after its loss to Lehigh, 22-13. The Huskies will face three of the teams ranked in the coaches poll during the season facing off with Illinois (#7); Edinboro (#12) and Rider (#22).
•Bloomsburg has six wrestlers,
Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central),
Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley),
Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia),
Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex),
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) and
Justin Grant (Easton/Easton), ranked nationally in their respective weight classes. Five of the six are ranked by Amateur Wrestling News (AWN).
• In the loss to Lehigh the Huskies picked up wins from
Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley),
Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia),
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) and
Justin Grant (Easton/Easton). Veltre was the only Bloomsburg wrestler to score bonus points when he won by major decision.
• The Huskies have two undefeated wrestlers in the lineup with both Busler and Veltre off to 5-0 starts.
• On Sunday the Huskies will head south to Philadelphia for the Keystone Classic. A year ago the Huskies finished fourth at the Keystone Classic with
Josh Roosa (Mountaintop/Crestwood) (149) and
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) (197). Overall the Huskies had 85.5 points while getting two first place finishes, a second and two fourths.
Appearing at the Keystone Classic this year willl be Penn (the host), Arizona State, American, Appalachian State, Bloomsburg, Boston University, Harvard, Indiana, N.C. State, Northwestern, Pitt, and Rider.
