Wrestling Team Takes Second at Cradle Gear Invitational

COMPLETE RESULTS

LOCK HAVEN—The Bloomsburg University team picked up three individual championships and finished second as a team at the Cradle Gear Invitational on Sunday at Lock Haven University.
 
Winning titles were Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central) (133); Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) (174) and Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) (197), while finishing second were Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) (125) and Justin Grant (Easton/Easton) (285). Matt Rappo (Holland/Council Rock South) (141) took third.
 
Wilcox won the 133-pound title by sweeping four matches on the day. Wilcox, ranked 16th by Intermat, beat Nathan Colburn of Old Dominion by fall in 4:09 in his first match, then edged Rich Carroll-Lavorato of George Mason, 3-2. In the semi-finals he took down Matthew Bryer of Lock Haven, 7-2, then beat Cody Wheeler of Lock Haven by fall in 3:31.
 
Dessino captured the 174-pound crown giving up just five points in four matches and beating Vincent Favia of Bucknell, 13-0, in the finals. Dessino opened the day with a 9-0 win over Jarred Lux of Buffalo followed by an 8-3 win over Adam Mackie of Lock Haven. In the semi-finals Dessino scored a 10-2 win over Travis Moyer of Lock Haven.
 
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown), ranked eighth by Intermat, wrapped up the champions for the Huskies capturing the 197-pound title. In his opening match Perry won by major decision, 12-4, over Luke Jones of Michigan State. In the semi-finals he scored a 4-0 win over Phil Sprenkle of Lock Haven, then pinned Nick McDiarmind of Michigan State in 6:59 to claim the crown.
 
At 125 pounds Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) had a second place finish. Boylan opened the day with a 17-1 win by technical fall over Bryce Gentry of George Mason, then advanced to the finals with a 3-0 win over Kaleb Lemaire of Lock Haven. In the finals Boylan lost 3-0 to David White of Binghamton.
 
In the 285-pound weight class Justin Grant (Easton/Easton) finished second falling to ninth-ranked Mike McClure of Michigan State in the finals by a score of 7-1. Grant started the day with a 6-1 win over Justin Kozera of Gardner-Webb then pinned Cody Mason of Lock Haven in 6:35 in the semi-finals.
 
Matt Rappo (Holland/Council Rock South) finished third for Bloomsburg at 141 pounds. Rappo began the day with a 7-2 win over Ryan Hull of Gardner-Webb before losing 6-2 to Nick Flannery of Buffalo, 6-2. In the consolation bracket Rappo beat Nick Kelley of Binghamton, 13-1, then beat Brian Gibbs of Michigan State, 6-2, in the third place match.
 
The Huskies return to action on Jan. 10-11 at the Virginia Duals.
