Men’s Basketball Aims to Extend Winning Streak at Shippensburg

BLOOMSBURG – Coming off a pair of victories over top teams in the East, the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team looks to take its newfound momentum on the road to Shippensburg in hopes of avenging a loss to the Raiders from earlier this season and significantly increasing its postseason chances.

The Huskies (7-14, 5-12 PSAC) take on the Raiders (5-16, 3-14) on Wednesday, Feb. 13 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House beginning at 8 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on WHLM (930-AM) based out of Bloomsburg with Jim Doyle and Larry White calling all the action. In addition, listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on BU's website at www.buhuskies.com. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes before tipoff.

MATCH UP: The Huskies are riding a two-game winning streak including a 16-point win over Cheyney, their largest win of the season. Shippensburg won the earlier matchup this season, snapping a three-game winning streak in the series for the Huskies. Bloomsburg has won the last three games at Heiges Field House, not losing at Ship since Feb. 18, 2009 (64-55).

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) has been named this week's PSAC East Athlete of the Week. He averaged 28.5 points per game including shooting 46.9 percent from the field (15-for-32) and 25-for-29 (86.2 percent) from the free throw line.

SECOND HALF HEROICS: Bloomsburg has outscored the opposition in the second half in eight of its last nine games.

THINGS ARE COMING TOGETHER: In BU's win over Cheyney, the 16-point win was the largest of the season for the Huskies. BU's 10-point, 34-24 lead at halftime was only the third time this season that the Huskies led at intermission, and first since Jan. 11 against Lock Haven.

FIRST TIME IN 10 YEARS: In BU's win over Cheyney, the Huskies shot an impressive 33-for-41 (80.5 percent) from the charity stripe, and Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) and Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) combined for 57 points. The 33 made free throws and 57 combined points by a duo mark the highest output by Bloomsburg dating back through the 2002-03 season.

SHEETZ CAN SHOOT: Zach Sheetz (Landisville/Hempfield) has made a three-pointer in each of his 12 games started this season. He leads the PSAC in three-point percentage (.444) and is fourth in three-pointers made per game (2.6). Sheetz is averaging 10.9 points per game for fourth on the team. He has made 17 consecutive free throws dating back to Jan. 30 vs. ESU.

LIGHTS OUT LORENZO: Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) is 10th in the PSAC at 16.2 points per game. Christmas' 2.8 three-pointers per game lead the PSAC, and his 36.4 percent from beyond the arc ranks seventh in the PSAC. He is fourth on the Bloomsburg all-time three-pointers list with 154. He has also made a three-pointer in 28 consecutive games played.

After its game against Shippensburg, Bloomsburg remains on the road to take West Chester on Saturday, Feb. 16 beginning at 3 p.m.
