BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team has dealt with great adversity this season, but remains in the heart of an intense playoff race in the Eastern Division. The Huskies will look to clinch a spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament as they take on Kutztown University on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tipoff at Nelson Field House is set for 2 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on WHLM (930-AM) based out of Bloomsburg with Jim Doyle and Larry White calling all the action. In addition, listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on BU's website at www.buhuskies.com. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes before tipoff.
The Huskies (7-17, 5-15 PSAC) will also celebrate senior day on Saturday and honor three members of the men's basketball team. Along with team manager Jennifer Shacreaw, head coach
John Sanow and the Bloomsburg University athletic department will honor
Nnamdi Njoku (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) and
Daniel Kusnyer (Wexford/Hillsborough CC) before the game for their careers at Bloomsburg.
With a win, Bloomsburg would hold a two-game lead over Kutztown (5-21, 4-16) and secure its place in the tournament for the second consecutive season. The Huskies would not be eliminated with a loss.
Bloomsburg dropped the first game this season against Kutztown on the road, 71-64, as Kutztown has won the last three matchups.
Kusnyer transferred to Bloomsburg this season from Hillsborough Community College and has made an immediate impact for the Huskies. He is averaging 5.1 points per game and is third on the team with 27 three-pointers. He is coming off back-to-back, career-high 15-point performances and has made eight three-pointers in the last two games.
Kusnyer has started in seven games and one of his biggest moments this season was making the game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds against West Chester to send the game to overtime. Kusnyer is a Business Management major from Wexford.
Njoku is in his second season with the Huskies. He's played in 41 games in his career, but had his senior season shortened due to injury. Njoku averaged a career-best 8.3 points per game last season and not only led the team Bloomsburg, but led the P-S-A-C in three-point percentage at 52.1 percent.
A memorable moment in Njoku's career was when he tipped-in a last second shot to give Bloomsburg the victory over East Stroudsburg. He scored a career-high 18 points on two occasions last season and ended his senior season having made his last 15 free throws. Njoku is a Westampton, New Jersey native and will graduate in December with a degree in Mass Communications and a focus on public relations.
After its game against Kutztown, Bloomsburg will travel to East Stroudsburg for its final regular season game of the season. Tipoff on Wednesday, Feb. 27 is set for 7:30 p.m.
