HAMPTON, VA – Sophomore left-hander
Tyler Hill (Lehighton/Lehighton) pitched four no-hit innings in relief Sunday morning, but the Bloomsburg University baseball team could not rebound from Kutztown University's two early runs as it dropped a 2-0 decision at War Memorial Stadium in the final game of the Builder Invitational.
Junior right-hander
Kyle Hunter (Lehighton/Lehighton) got the start for the Huskies (2-2). He pitched four innings and allowed two runs off five hits with two strikeouts. From the end of the second inning, Hunter retired six straight hitters, including retiring the side in the third, and seven of eight batters after the fourth.
Freshman
Joey Casselberry (Eagleville/Methacton) went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
A.J. Stump (Reading/Antietam) and
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) had the other two hits for Bloomsburg.
Kutztown took an early 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. It scored with two outs off a balk by Hunter in the first, and off an infield groundout to score the man from third in the second inning.
Hill took over on the mound with the Huskies trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning. He retired his first 11 batters faced and ended the day with two strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Casselberry hit a double with two outs in the eighth, but the Huskies were unable to produce any runs. They also brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth, but the final two batters struck out to end the game.
Casselberry leads the team in hitting through four games. He is batting .538 with seven hits and two RBI.
Kutztown used eight different pitchers with starter Tom Neely throwing two innings. Bloomsburg tallied six hits off of Kutztown pitchers, as Kutztown only produced five hits, none after the fourth inning.
Bloomsburg returns to action next weekend in Ruther Glen, Va. From Feb. 2-3, Bloomsburg will play Slippery Rock twice and the College of Saint Rose once.
