BELMONT, NC—Pitcher
Eric Geedey (Elverson/Twin Valley) threw 4 1/3 innings of four-hit relief to help lead the Bloomsburg University baseball team to an 8-7 win over Belont Abbey College on Sunday in North Carolina.
Geedey came into the game in the bottom of the fifth in relief of starter
Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland). Geedey allowed just one hit through the first four innings of work before running into trouble in the bottom of the ninth. After getting the first out Geedey allowed three straight hits resulting in two runs for the home team.
Tyler Hill (Lehighton/Lehighton) then relieved Geedey and, with the winning run at the play, Hill promptly induced a game-ending double play to earn the save.
Geedey finished with four hits allowed with three strikeouts and one walk to get the win with Hill earning the save.
The Huskies got off to a fast start in the first inning scoring four times.
Joey Casselberry (Eagleville/Methacton) singled home a run, while Cory Baiada had an RBI on ground out.
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) also scored when
A.J. Stump (Reading/Antietam) reached on an error with Stump later stealing home.
Belmont Abbey rallied and tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the first. The Crusaders got four hits and took advantage of an error in the inning to score four times.
Bloomsburg took a 5-4 lead in the top of third inning. The Huskies loaded the bases in the inning. After a fielder's choice erased a runner at the plate,
Jordan Schainholz (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) scored on a wild pitch to put the visitors back on top.
The Huskies made it 6-4 in the top of the fourth. After two were out Stump, Baiada an Schainholz all walked to load the bases. Then the fourth walk of the frame to Brian Almond forced in a run.
The Crusaders made it 6-5 with a run in the bottom of the fourth before the Huskies scored two times to lead 8-7.
Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) and
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) had RBI in the inning and giving the Huskies a cushion. That cushion would come in handy in the ninth inning.
With the win the Huskies improve to 4-6, while Belmont Abbey falls to 14-5-1. Bloomsburg plays on Saturday at Trevecca Nazarene in a doubleheader.
