WEST CHESTER-The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of games to West Chester on Saturday losing 5-4 and 3-0. The games were originally scheduled for Bloomsburg, but were switched to West Chester since Litwhiler Field was not ready for play.
The Huskies took the early lead in game one scoring twice in the second inning.
Corey Baiada (Harleysville/LaSalle) reached on an error to lead off and moved to second on a sac bunt by
Jordan Schainholz (Bellefonte/Bellefonte).
Brian Almand (Haddon Township, NJ/Paul VI) singled through the left side with Baiada going to third and Almand taking second on the throw.
A.J. Stump (Reading/Antietam) then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Baiada with the game's first run.
Tim Kurucz (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) then singled scoring Almand for a 2-0 lead.
Bloomsburg threatened in the third getting runners at the corners with two outs, but did not score. The Huskies added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Stump was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and went to second on a bunt.
Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) then singled with Stump moving to third.
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) then put down a great bunt that scored Stump with Mazza moving to third.
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) then singled scoring Mazza for a 4-0 lead.
Meanwhile Bloomsburg pitcher
Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) was cruising along having allowed just two hits through five innings. In the sixth Cooperman got the first two outs before walking Justin Lamborn. Chris Pula then reached on an infield single with Lamborn going to second. Nick Bonadies then reached on an error to lead the bases. Jordan Wlodarczyk then singled scoring two runs. Tyler Coleman then reached on an error that plated the third run of the inning for the Golden Rams. West Chester then went ahead with Kyle Frazier getting a double that scored two more runs and giving WCU a 5-4 lead.
The Huskies did a get a runner on in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but could not score.
Brent Roehrich got the win in relief for West Chester going the final 3 1/3 innings. Cooperman suffered the loss going 5 2/3 innings and giving up five unearned runs, while striking out five and walking two.
In game two West Chester pitcher Conor Kerins took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) doubled with two outs. Joey Cassleberry flied out though to end the inning. The Huskies did have base runners in multiple innings despite not getting a hit.
In the first inning the Huskies had two one with out, but Kerins escaped the jam. In the third
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) reached on an error and Smith walked, but Kerin again worked out of the jam.
The Huskies also got a single in the sixth inning with two outs, but did not score.
West Chester, 12-8, 4-0 PSAC East, got all the runs it would need in the second when it scored twice, then added a single run in the fifth.
Eric Geedy took the loss for the Huskies striking out three and walking two.
Bloomsburg, now 4-12, 0-4 in the PSAC East, is scheduled to host Lock Haven on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
