BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of games on Friday to Millersville losing 4-1 and 7-0. It was the home opener for the Huskies.
In game one the Marauders took the early lead jumping out on top 1-0. With one in the top of the first Jeremy Musser doubled to right. After a ground out to shortstop, Zach Stone doubled to left scoring Musser. Bloomsburg starter
Bryan Morris (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) got a fly out to end the inning.
The Huskies tied the score in the bottom of the first against Tim Mayza. With one out,
Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) doubled followed by
Joey Casselberry (Eagleville/Methacton) getting hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. A fly out to right moved Smith up to third before
Nick Eversole doubled to left scoring Smith. After a walk to
Jordan Schainholz (Bellefonte/Bellefonte), Mayza got a strikeout to end the inning.
Millersville made it 2-1 in the second when Mark Stuckey doubled and when to third on a single to left by Tyler McDonald. Stuckey then scored on a ground out. In the third the Marauders added a run Dan Johnson doubled to lead off the inning and later moved to third on an error. Stuckey then laid down a bunt that scored Johnson to make it 3-1.
Bloomsburg threatened in the fifth loading the bases with two outs on two walks and a single. But Mayza got a fly out to deep center to end the threat.
Millersville made it 4-1 in the sixth when Musser singled scoring Tyler Morris who led off the inning with a double.
Mayza was pulled with one out in the seventh with Adam Zipko getting the final two outs.
In the nightcap, Millersville got a run in the top of the first. Evan King got a single leading off the game, then moved to second on a balk and later scored when Johnson doubled. The Marauders made it 4-0 in the third inning getting three unearned runs. Tyler McDonald had the big hit in the inning singling through the left side with the bases loaded driving in a pair of runs.
The Huskies put two runners on in the bottom of the third with two outs, but Tad Barton got a fly out to end the inning.
Millersville added three more runs in the fifth taking advantage of two Bloomsburg errors to make it a 7-0 lead.
Jared Schaffer (Perkasie/Pennridge) took the loss for the Huskies giving up just one earned run, while striking out two. Barton picked up the win for Millersville, now 16-8, 2-0 PSAC East, allowing just three hits.
Bloomsburg falls to 4-16, 0-6 in the PSAC East. The teams meet again on Saturday at Millersville starting at 1 p.m.
