BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bloomsburg University had a chance to tie both games in the seventh inning, but visiting East Stroudsburg escaped Danny Litwhiler Field with a sweep of a PSAC East doubleheader.  The Warriors claimed game one 3-1 and held on in the second game for a 5-3 victory.

In game one, Bryan Morris (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) went the distance on the mound for the Huskies, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and two walks. He struck out five.

Unfortunately, he was outdueled by ESU's Brian Ernst, who also went the distanced and fanned 11.

The Warriors scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings before BU answered back in the bottom of the fourth.  Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) walked and stole second before a Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) single advanced him to third.  A wild pitch allowed Ravel to come home for Bloomsburg's only run of the contest.

In the seventh, Corey Baiada (Harleysville/LaSalle) singled and was lifted for pinch runner Nick Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North).  The hit allowed BU to bring the potential tying run to the plate with one out, but Ernst finished the game without further damage.

Brian Almand (Haddon Township, NJ/Paul VI), Eversole, Baiada, Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) and Aaron Russell (Montoursville/Montoursville) all had hits for the Huskies.

ESU's Eric Forth was the only player on either squad with two hits in the opener.

In game two, the Huskies' Ravel had a career-high four hits, but back-to-back homers by Forth and Drew Hercik of East Stroudsburg cracked a 1-1 tie and helped the Warriors to a 5-3 win.

Ravel finished 4-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.

ESU scored a run in the top of the third, but Bloomsburg tied things up in the bottom of the inning.  Mazza doubled to left and scored on a single up the middle by Almand.

Forth and Hercik homered in the top of the fourth to reclaim the lead for the Warriors.

In both the fifth and sixth innings, after East Stroudsburg scored once in the top of the inning, BU responded with a run in the bottom half.  Ravel singled in Russell in the fifth to make it 4-2 before Baiada knocked in a run with a ground out the next inning to once again pull BU within two, 5-3.

In the seventh, Ravel singled with two outs, took second on catcher's indifference and a wild pitch put him on third.  After Eversole walked to put the potential tying run on first, ESU brought in reliever Keith Moyer, who locked down the save.

Almand had two hits and drove in a run, while Joey Casselberry (Eagleville/Methacton), A.J. Stump (Reading/Antietam), Mazza and Russell also had hits for Bloomsburg.

Jared Schaffer (Perkasie/Pennridge) took the loss. He allowed four runs in five innings on 11 hits, but did not walk a batter.  He struck out a pair.  Kyle Hunter (Lehighton/Lehighton) finished the game with two innings of relief, allowing a run on one hit and a walk.

Ryan Lubreski was credited with the win, pitching 6.2 innings.  The Huskies collected 10 hits and a walk against him and he surrendered three runs before giving way to Moyer.

Forth had three hits.

BU and East Stroudsburg wrap up the four-game series on Monday, April 22 when Bloomsburg hits the road for a PSAC East doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
