INDIANA, Pa. - Bloomsburg University kept its run of late game heroics going, scoring nine total runs in the seventh inning of each end of a doubleheader at Indiana (Pa.) to sweep the Crimson Hawks 6-5 and 10-6.

Corey Baiada (Harleysville/LaSalle) and Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) were in the middle of both rallies. Baiada drove in the winning run in the first game and capped the Bloomsburg scoring in game two with a two-run triple. Smith had a sacrifice fly to tie the opener, then ripped a two-run double in the second game to drive in the game winning runs.

The Huskies trailed 5-2 heading into their final at bat of the opener, but scored four runs to take the win.  In game two, BU and Indiana were deadlocked at 5-5 before Bloomsburg exploded for five runs in the seventh to seal the sweep.

With the Huskies down three in the final inning of game one, Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) led off with a single and walks to Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) and Nickolas Eversole (Lewistown/Indian Valley) loaded the bases with no outs.  Stump doubled to right field to drive in Ravel and Mazza, clipping the Crimson Hawks' lead to 5-4.  After a pitching change, Smith lifted a fly ball to center field, allowing Eversole to scamper home with the tying run. Baiada knocked in Stump with a single up the middle to give the Huskies a 6-5 lead.

Pitcher Matt Hurd (Orefield/Parkland) made the lead stand to finish off the complete game in his first career start.

Bloomsburg opened the scoring in the game when Brian Almand (Haddon Township, NJ/Paul VI) reached on an error and scored for a 1-0 lead.  IUP tied it up in the bottom half of the inning, then added four more runs in the second for a 5-1 early lead.

Stump drove in the Huskies' second run with a bases loaded single in the fifth that scored Tim Kurucz (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick).  Kurucz, the catcher, led off the inning with a bunt single.

Ravel finished 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored and two steals.  Stump had three runs batted in and was one of seven Huskies with a one hit in the contest.

Hurd tossed a complete game in his first career start after throwing just four innings all year.  He scattered 10 hits and did not walk a batter, while striking out three.

Demetrius Christofes threw six innings for IUP, allowing two runs, one earned. The Crimson Hawks went to the bullpen for the seventh.  Jared Weed started the inning and did not retire a batter, surrendering four runs on two hits and a pair of walks.  Justin Charles finished the game, allowing a hit and a walk.  Dylan Tice went 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run.

In game two, it was Ravel getting the seventh inning rally started once again with a walk to lead off the inning.  A double by Eversole and a walk by Stump loaded the bases for Smith, who ripped a double to center to knock in the go ahead runs for a 7-5 lead.  Baiada followed with a two-run triple that allowed Stump and Smith to circle the bases.  James Ott (Massapequa/Massapequa) drove in Baiada with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-5.

The Crimson Hawks got one run back in the bottom of the inning.

The game was a back and forth battle from the start.  Bloomsburg went ahead 1-0 in the second when Stump scored on a single to center by Baiada.

IUP scored three runs in the third to jump ahead 3-1, but the Huskies answered with a three-run fourth.  Eversole led off with a walk and scored on Stump's double to left center.  Stump scored to tie the game when Baiada roped a base hit through the middle.  Singles by Ott and Pete Edgar (Hatfield/North Penn) loaded the bases and Almand gave BU a 4-3 lead with a run scoring single to up the middle.

Bloomsburg made it 5-3 in the top of the fifth on a triple to right center by Stump that drove home Eversole.

The Crimson Hawks, however, tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run home run by Tice.

Baiada was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs in the game.  Eversole reached base on all four trips to the plate via a double, two singles, and a walk.  He and Stump each scored three runs in the game.  Stump added a double, a triple and two RBIs to his effort.  Getting spot starts, Ott and Edgar both had multi-hit efforts.

Matt Jaskolka (Warren/Warren Area) started and went 5.1 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits and three walks, striking out a pair.  Nick Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) entered in the sixth inning and pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing a run on a hit and a walk.  He struck out two.

Austin Mock took the loss for IUP. He was charged with nine earned runs in 6.1 innings on 13 hits and three walks.  Charles entered in the seventh and allowed a run on one hit over 0.2 innings.  Tice homered for the second straight game.

With the sweep, Bloomsburg has won four in a row and 10-of-13.

The two teams wrap up a four-game set on Wednesday, April 24 when IUP visits Danny Litwhiler Field for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
