Huskies Drop Two to No. 13 Kutztown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HTML Box Score Game One / HTML Box Score Game Two

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Bloomsburg University pitchers Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) and Eric Geedey (Elverson/Twin Valley) pitched complete games and limited No. 13 Kutztown to 10 combined hits, but the Golden Bears escaped Danny Litwhiler Field with a doubleheader sweep of the Huskies.  KU took game one 3-1 and claimed the second game 2-0.

Cooperman allowed just six hits and three runs, did not walk a batter and struck out three in the opener.

Kutztown scored two runs in the first inning when Kyle Stoudt had an RBI triple and later scored.

BU fought back with a run in the third when Paul Edgar doubled down the line in left with one out and scored on a single by Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson)

The Huskies chased Kutztown's starter in the fourth when a single by Brian Almand (Haddon Township, NJ/Paul VI) and an A.J. Stump (Reading/Antietam) double put runners on second and third with one out.  Jordan Garcia entered in relief and worked out of the jam.

After the first inning, Cooperman faced just one batter over the minimum over the next four innings.  In the sixth, KU got a leadoff double from Brandon Martinez, who later scored on a hit by Stoudt for an insurance run for the Golden Bears.

Stump had three of the Huskies six hits in the game.

Garcia picked up the win in relief before Billy Felo notched a three-inning save.

In the second game, Geedey allowed just four hits and struck out five, while walking four.

He was locked in a pitchers' duel with KU's Brandon Shimo.  The Husky starter limited the Golden Bears to just two hits and a walk through the first five frames.

It appeared BU may strike first with a double by Almand to open the fifth, but Bloomsburg could not score.

Kutztown's Brett Hauck scored in the bottom of the inning on a base hit by Thomas Romanofor the game's first run and the Golden Bears added another run in the seventh.

Bloomsburg had a chance in the bottom of the seventh when Tim Kurucz (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Edgar were hit by pitches, but KU's James Rossi entered and picked up the save.

In addition to Almand's double, Ravel, Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) and Aaron Russell (Montoursville/Montoursville) also had hits for the Huskies.

BU will look to get back in the win column on Sunday, April 7 when Philadelphia University visits for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.

Before the contests against Kutztown, the Huskies hosted the PRSSA Best Buddies Day at the Ball Field.  Below are pictures from the event.
