STORYLINE
The Huskies women's soccer team aims to lengthen its two-game winning streak when it travels west to play PSAC newcomers Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown on Friday and Saturday. Bloomsburg (2-1, 1-1) split its first two conference matches of the season, dropping the season-opener at Gannon, 4-1, before defeating Mercyhurst at home last Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
Bloomsburg had plenty of drama in its last outing, coming away with a 2-1 victory in double overtime at Chestnut Hill. After playing a scoreless first half, Chestnut Hill broke through in the 56th minute with the first score. The Huskies'
Julia Rios (Millersville/Penn Manor) answered less than three minutes for the tie and the teams battled through a scoreless final 30 minutes and first overtime before Rios scored again in the 108th minute for the 2-1 win.
SCOUTING SETON HILL
The Griffins began their tenure in the PSAC with two losses, falling at Clarion, 2-0, and vs. IUP, 2-0. Seton Hill has been idle since last Saturday when it dropped its contest with the visiting Crimson Hawks of IUP. Still seeking their first goal of the season, the Griffins were selected to finish 16th in the preseason PSAC Coaches' Poll and finished 10-7-1 with a 5-4-1 conference record while playing in the WVIAC last year.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Bloomsburg leads, 1-0-0.
SCOUTING PITT-JOHNSTOWN
Like Seton Hill, UPJ is looking for its first goal as a PSAC member after falling at IUP, 6-0, and vs. Clarion, 3-0. The Mountain Cats, picked to finish 17th in the preseason coaches' poll, also have been idle since playing Clarion last Saturday. UPJ finished its final season in the WVIAC with an 11-7-0 record a year ago and return seven starters from that squad.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Bloomsburg leads, 1-0-0.
RIOS ENJOYS CAREER GAME
Julia Rios (Millersville/Penn Manor) picked a great time to score her first two goals for the Huskies; tallying the only two scores BU would need in its 2-1 victory vs. Chestnut Hill, including the game-winner in double overtime. Rios made one start and played in 12 games for the Huskies a season ago and the goals vs. Chestnut Hill were her first in maroon and gold.
ADDING UP THE POINTS
Senior
Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) continues to rise up the Huskies' record books with a strong start to the season. She's already tallied two goals and two assists for a total of six points. Her point total is second-highest in the PSAC so far this season behind only Brittney Kuhns of IUP and she now has 62 points for her career, ranking tied for ninth in BU history, and her 23 goals are tied 10th.
PUTTING ON THE PRESSURE
Bloomsburg has outshot its opposition by a 55-29 margin through its three matches.
UP NEXT
The Huskies return home for a meeting with East Stroudsburg as PSAC action continues on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 5:00 p.m. inside Sports Stadium.
