BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team fell to 6th-ranked East Stroudsburg University, 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday at Sports Stadium.

The Huskies dominated the first half of play, creating several strong scoring chances against the top-ranked ESU defense. Bloomsburg held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks and also a 7-6 advantage in shots.

Following an East Stroudsburg foul, Bloomsburg was awarded a penalty kick opportunity. Kelsey Holtz (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Borough)'s PK in the 38th minute was turned away, however, on a save by ESU keeper Brittain Wagner to preserve the tie for the moment.

Late in the first half, BU lost starter Julia Rios (Millersville/Penn Manor) to injury, leaving the Huskies without three of their regular starters as leading scorer Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) along with Maureen Leis (Erdenheim/Springfield) sat out due to injury.

Despite creating more scoring opportunities than ESU, it appeared  as if the game would go to the break deadlocked at 0-0. But with 18 seconds left in the opening period Bloomsburg's Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) put a deflection off a corner kick past East Stroudsburg goalie and current PSAC women's soccer Athlete of the Week Brittain Wagner. The goal also snapped a 404:42 scoreless streak by the Warriors to start the season.

East Stroudsburg got on the board in the 59th minute when Sammi Jo Hughes shot on a breakaway beat the diving Huskies goalkeeper Danielle Fiorelli (Warrington/Villa Joseph Marie) to knot the score at 1-1.

The game stayed 1-1 through the remainder of regulation forcing overtime for the two teams.

The Huskies had first crack at scoring getting a corner kick in the 95th minute, but could not convert. East Stroudsburg then got the game winner when Shea Neal took a cross from Courtney Keller and scored from five yards out.

Fiorelli made seven saves in goal for the Huskies.

The Huskies fall to 3-3, 3-2 in the PSAC, while East Stroudsburg goes to 5-0, 5-0 in the PSAC and is the only remaining unbeaten and untied team in the conference.

Bloomsburg will play at West Chester at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
