TOURNAMENT BRACKET
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team will take part in the 34th annual Virginia Duals National College Championship Tournament this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11 at the Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, Va.
Â
The Huskies, seeded fourth, will face off with local rival Bucknell University at 9 a.m. in an opening round match. The winner of the match will move on to face either fifth-seeded Kent State or The Citadel at 1 p.m. that afternoon.
Â
In the other half of the Huskies bracket are Chattanooga, which will face Arizona State and Virginia, which has a bye. The bottom half of the bracket will feature Virginia Tech vs. Nebraska-Kearney; George Mason vs. Rider; Old Dominion vs. Lock Haven and Edinboro, which has a first round bye.
Â
Action will continue until a champion is crowned Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.
Â
"I am happy with the draw we received," said Bloomsburg University head coach
Jason Mester. "It is nice to face a school (Bucknell) just down the road from us. Bucknell wrestles hard and this will be a good match for us."
Â
"This weekend we will get to see national caliber teams and nationally ranked individuals, which will help us to get better for March," Mester added. "We hope to get some big wins down there this weekend."
Â
Bloomsburg's lineup should feature the return of two nationally ranked wrestlers,
Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) and
Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia). Both wrestlers have been out of the lineup for the last four to five weeks with injuries, but are again healthy. Busler is 14-3 on the season, while Veltre is 10-2.
