Stats SCOUTING CHEYNEY
Cheyney opened the season at 1-1 with a pair of games last weekend at West Liberty University in the Mountain East Challenge. The Wolves lost to Fayetteville State, 67-64, last Saturday and bounced back with a 69-63 win over St. Augustine's on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolves could not hold an eight-point halftime lead (36-28) in the season opener, allowing Fayetteville to shoot 50 percent (12-of-24) in the second half to rally from a 13-point deficit with 13 minutes to play. After Blake McGlond hit a jumper to put Cheyney up, 52-39, the Wolves were outscored 28-12 over the final 12:52.
Four Cheyney players scored in double figures in the St. Augustine's win – Jerrod Johnson led the way with 16 points. Picked ninth in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches Poll, Johnson is the only returning starter from last year's team and led the team with 50 steals and 65 assists. Eight new players join the roster along with five returnees.
Kevin Larkin was named PSAC East Freshman of the Week after scoring 25 points off the bench in the season-opener vs. Fayetteville State with six rebounds and two steals. He followed with 14 points the next day.
