BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team faces its biggest test in its quest for a first round bye in the PSAC Tournament when it hosts West Chester on Wednesday. SCOUTING WEST CHESTER
West Chester enters Saturday with a half-game lead over Bloomsburg for second place in the PSAC East following a win vs. Shippensburg, 74-60, on Saturday afternoon. WCU has won back-to-back games, including a key conference win, 87-84, vs. Lock Haven last Wednesday. The Golden Rams rank second in the conference in scoring at 80.5 ppg but just 14th in scoring defense, surrendering 74.8 ppg. In order to earn a bye in the first round of the PSAC Tournament WCU will have to face the other two top teams in the division, at Bloomsburg on Saturday and then, following a week off, a trip to No. 6 East Stroudsburg on Feb. 26.

The Golden Rams are among the best PSAC teams in guarding the perimeter, allowing opponents to shoot just 30.1 percent from beyond the arc this year, ranking third among all PSAC teams. WCU also excels on the boards, ranking second in the conference in both total rebounds per game (40.3) and offensive rebounds per contest (13.6).

Troy Hockaday ranks ninth in the PSAC in scoring at 16.6 ppg while Cory Blake adds 12.9 ppg.

Bloomsburg defeated WCU, 77-76, on Jan. 18 and the Golden Rams are no strangers to nailbiters – WCU has had nine games decided by five or fewer points including three games separated by only one point, posting a 4-5 record in those tight contests.

THE BLOOMSBURG-WEST CHESTER SERIES
Bloomsburg leads 65-61

The Huskies snapped what was a five-game WCU winning streak in the series with their 77-76 win on Jan. 18. Bloomsburg swept the season series in 2010-11. In the first meeting this year, Alssene Saintilus (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored the game-winning basket on a slam dunk with 7.3 seconds remaining to erase a one-point deficit and send BU to a thrilling win. Shannon Givens drilled a long 3-pointer for the 76-75 lead with 12 seconds to play before Riles found Saintilus for the game-winner.
