GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped the first two games of a three-game series at Tusculum College on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-4 in the first game before suffering a 15-7 setback in the nightcap.

The Huskies now stand 6-5 on the year while Tusculum improved to 13-8.

GAME ONE – Tusculum 7, Bloomsburg 4
Tusculum used early offense to take control of the first game. The Pioneers scored three times and added a run in each the second and third frames and never trailed.

After Bloomsburg stranded a runner at second in the top of the first, the Pioneers sent seven men to the plate in a three-run bottom half of the inning. A double play erased a leadoff walk, but another walk and a balk set up an RBI single by Trey Drewery for the game's first run. Cody Andreychuk later doubled in two more runs before the side was retired.

An RBI single and a Huskies error led to Tusculum runs in the second and third respectively before Bloomsburg began to chip away. Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) put the Huskies on the board with an RBI single to center, scoring Corey Baiada (Harleysville/LaSalle) who had singled to begin the inning. Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) then plated two more runs with another hit to center, pulling the Huskies to a 5-3 score.

Bloomsburg drew to within a run in the eighth when Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) punched an RBI single up the middle, scoring Brady West (Harleysville/North Penn).

Tusculum added insurance runs in the eighth, however, on an RBI hit by Nick Rodriguez as well as an unearned run on an infield single. Bloomsburg put a pair of runners on base, but Tusculum's John-Austin Shepard shut the door for the save.

Christian Raasch (3-3) picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work, allowing three runs. Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) (1-2) tossed 7.2 innings and allowed four earned runs with two strikeouts.

Smith paced the offense with two hits.

GAME TWO – Tusculum 15, Bloomsburg 7
The Huskies and Pioneers exchanged scoreless frames through three and a half innings before Tusculum broke the game open with an eight-run fourth.

Tusculum began the scoring when Scott Gibson reached on an error, forcing home Heath Comerford who doubled to lead off. An infield hit scored the second run and the Pioneers then plated two more runs on a single to center by Jeremiah Tullidge. Later in the inning, the biggest blow came on a grand slam by Comerford. All eight runs in the frame were unearned.

Ravel got the Huskies on the board with an RBI single to left center and A.J. Stump (Reading/Antietam) drove in another run with an infield hit.

Bloomsburg tacked on five more runs in the seventh with RBI singles from Smith and Mazza before Joey Casselberry (Eagleville/Methacton) was hit by a pitch with the bases to force in another run and then Baiada walked to bring in Eric Frain (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan). Another infield hit by Brian Almand (Haddon Township, NJ/Paul VI) plated Mazza in a five-hit frame.

The Pioneers put a halt to the rally, however, with three more runs in the home half of the seventh and didn't look back.

Bloomsburg had 10 hits in the nightcap, led by two hits apiece from Almand, Smith and Ravel.

Michael Scott (2-0) earned the win, starting and throwing six innings of two-run ball. Chris Waylock had four hits for the Pioneers.

Matt Jaskolka (Warren/Warren Area) (2-1) was tagged with the loss, with all eight runs scoring against him coming unearned. He struck out three in 3.2 innings.

The two teams meet for the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
