Box Score 2 (Eagleville/Methacton) and charged all the way back in the fifth. The Huskies scored five times on five hits in the inning to seize the lead for the first time. Casselberry started the scoring with a one-out double down the left field line to score both Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) and Damin Muth (Breinigsville/Parkland). Brady West (Harleysville/North Penn) followed by punching a pitch back up the middle to score Casselberry before Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) capped the Huskies uprising with a two-RBI single to double up Mansfield at 6-3. Mansfield got a run back in the home half of the inning, using a Huskies error to score an unearned run on a fielder's choice RBI from Brandon Miller to cut the Huskies lead to 6-4. A run of insurance crossed the plate in the sixth, though, as Muth knocked in
Eric Frain (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) with an RBI single to cap the scoring.
Eight Huskies combined for 14 hits led by Smith who went 3-for-4 with two RBI out of the eight spot in the order. Casselberry drove in three runs while Frain, Muth, West and
Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) all had two hits apiece.
Cooperman (6-4) continued to be the workhorse of the Huskies rotation, posting his seventh consecutive complete game and eighth of the season. He scattered eight hits, allowing only one earned run and did not walk a batter, throwing 54 of his 81 pitches for strikes while striking out five Mountaineers.
The senior right-hander now has 235.1 innings on the mound in maroon and gold, passing the old school record of 235.0 innings worked by J.P. Thomas from 1988-91. Cooperman's 77.0 innings this spring also leads the PSAC.
GAME TWO – Huskies 8, Mansfield 3After Mansfield scored a run in the first for a 1-0 edge, the Huskies scored three runs in the second and never looked back en route to a commanding victory in the nightcap.
West started the rally with a single to left with the first of four straight one-out hits for Bloomsburg followed by base knocks from Ravel, Smith and
Corey Baiada (Harleysville/LaSalle) with Baiada's smash through the right side tying the game by plating West. A fielder's choice RBI from Frain gave the Huskies their first lead and
Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) followed with an RBI single up the middle for a 3-1 advantage.
Bloomsburg scored at least one run in the second through sixth innings and never looked back the rest of the way.
Tyler Hill (Lehighton/Lehighton) (6-3) was the beneficiary of the Bloomsburg offense, earning the victory with six innings of work. Hill allowed three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out five.
Alex Carpenter (South Williamsport/South Williamsport) finished the game with a perfect seventh inning of work, striking out Mansfield's Johnny LeClair looking to end the contest.
Five Huskies posted two hits – Casselberry, West, Ravel, Smith and
Brian Almand (Haddon Township, NJ/Paul VI). Frain drove in a pair of runs as well.
Bloomsburg will wrap up its PSAC East schedule by hosting Mansfield at Danny Litwhiler Field on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies will honor their eight seniors prior to the 12 noon scheduled first pitch.
GAME NOTES: Cooperman also moved into third place in school history for complete games (15) and wins (17) while also ranking fifth in strikeouts. He also lowered his season ERA to 1.64, third in the PSAC on the year … the game one victory gave the Huskies their highest season win total since winning 30 in 1997.
