BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University baseball team scored a 6-5 game one win in walk-off fashion Saturday afternoon vs. Mansfield as part of Senior Day before dropping a 4-2 decision in the nightcap for a doubleheader split at Danny Litwhiler Field.

The Huskies complete Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with a 28-16 overall record and 20-8 in the PSAC East while Mansfield finishes at 19-23, 7-20.

Bloomsburg locks itself into the No. 2 seed in next week's PSAC Tournament while Millersville (21-7) captures the top seed from the East. West Chester (16-12) will be the third seed while Kutztown (14-14) jumped into the playoff bracket with the final spot from the Eastern Division by sweeping defending conference champion East Stroudsburg on Saturday.

GAME ONE – Huskies 6, Mansfield 5
Pete Edgar (Hatfield/North Penn) worked a walk on a full count to lead off the bottom of the seventh, stole second and then came home with the winning run on a crazy final play. Brian Almand (Haddon Township, NJ/Paul VI) put down a sacrifice bunt and Mansfield pitcher Zach Sacoman threw the ball away down the first base line, allowing Edgar to scamper home for a walk-off victory.

Mansfield led early, taking a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the third before the Huskies broke into the scoring column on an RBI double from Damin Muth (Breinigsville/Parkland) to cut the Mountaineers lead in half. Mansfield took a two-run lead again in the fourth by pushing across a run.

Bloomsburg fought back to take the lead with a four-run fifth. Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) started the rally with a one-out single before Muth and Almand both walked to load the bases. Joey Casselberry (Eagleville/Methacton) brought in the first run with a run-scoring groundout before Brady West (Harleysville/North Penn) drilled a ball off the pitcher that hopped to third base, scoring one run before another could come home on a wild throw from the Mansfield third baseman. Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) knocked in another run with an RBI single for a 5-3 lead.

The Mountaineers knotted the score in the sixth, however, scoring twice on four hits for a 5-5 tie to set the stage for the seventh inning drama.

Cody Heane (McClure/Indian Valley) (4-1) picked up the win in relief, working 1.2 innings out of the Huskies pen while allowing a run on three hits. Matt Jaskolka (Warren/Warren Area) started and threw 3.2 innings, surrendering two earned runs before Jared Schaffer (Perkasie/Pennridge) came on and tossed 1.2 innings allowing one run on two hits.

Mazza and West each had two hits to power the Huskies offensive attack while Mansfield pounded out 14 hits but left nine runners on base.

GAME TWO – Mansfield 4, Huskies 2
Mansfield scored four runs on four hits in the first inning and made the early offense stick to earn a split of the day's action.

After the Mountaineers leadoff man Seth Tressler grounded out to begin the game, Mansfield ripped off four straight hits in the top of the first to seize control.

After that, Bloomsburg starter Ryuta Amaike (Whitehall/Whitehall) (2-1) was nearly flawless but Mansfield lefty Matt Engler kept the Huskies off balance throughout the afternoon. Engler held the Huskies off the scoreboard until the fourth when Bloomsburg tallied an unearned run on a sacrifice fly from Muth.

Bloomsburg mounted a rally effort in the seventh once more, but this time around came up short. West led off with a single through the left side and went to second when Smith walked. Mansfield senior Quin Taylor relieved Engler and coaxed a strikeout, but a wild pitch and throwing error allowed West to score to cut the deficit to two runs. With the tying run at the plate, Quin delivered a strikeout to end the game.

Amaike allowed four runs on six hits with all of the damage coming during the first inning as the redshirt freshman allowed just two hits over the final six innings. Amaike struck out two and threw 61 of his 103 pitches for strikes.

Engler (3-1) earned the win with six-plus innings while not allowing an earned run and scattering four hits with two strikeouts. Taylor picked up his first save by recording the final three outs.
Mazza went 2-for-3 to lead the Huskies.

Bloomsburg completes the regular season by traveling to Philadelphia University for a non-conference tilt on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
