MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Back-to-back ninth inning RBI singles from Corey Baiada (Harleysville/LaSalle) and Brady West (Harleysville/North Penn) pushed the Bloomsburg University baseball team to a 4-2 victory in the nightcap of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at No. 21 Millersville. The Marauders led early and held on for a 3-1 win in the opener.

Sunday's doubleheader split was the second in as many days for the Huskies and Marauders with the teams winning in reverse fashions from Saturday when Bloomsburg took a 9-2 game one win before the Marauders won 4-2 in extra innings at Danny Litwhiler Field.

The Huskies now stand 16-11 overall on the year and 9-5 in the PSAC East while Millersville is 21-10 and 8-4 in conference play.

GAME ONE – Millersville 3, Huskies 1
Two costly first inning errors led to a pair of unearned runs for the Marauders and were the difference in a game one loss.

Millersville picked up two hits in the bottom of the first, but the inning was lengthened by two Bloomsburg miscues in the field as the hosts took advantage for an early lead.

The first inning advantage proved to be enough for Millersville starter Tad Barton (4-2) who allowed just a fourth inning RBI single to Tim Ravel (Sinking Spring/Wilson) during his 6.1 innings of work to record his 23rd career victory, setting the Millersville school record in the process.

Adam Zipko came on in relief with one runner on base in the seventh and recorded the final two outs for his sixth save of the year.

Casey Cooperman (Allentown/Parkland) (3-4) was strong again for the Huskies, allowing only one earned run on seven hits with no walks and a strikeout in his six innings on the hill.

Nick Mazza (Carbondale/Carbondale) had two of Bloomsburg's four singles while Ravel and West each had one hit.

GAME TWO – Huskies 4, Millersville 2 (9 innings)
Baiada broke a 2-2 deadlock in the top of the ninth with his RBI single to left field, ending a tie that had lasted since the third inning.

Ravel started the ninth inning rally with his one-out single, moving into scoring position on a ground out. Baiada then roped an 0-1 delivery from Millersville's Jim McDade into left, bringing Ravel home from second for the 3-2 lead. Pinch runner Pete Edgar (Hatfield/North Penn) then stole second base and would score when West drove the first pitch he saw from McDade back up the middle for another run-scoring single.

Cody Heane (McClure/Indian Valley) worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to preserve victory.

Bloomsburg seized an early lead, scoring twice in the top of the first. Eric Frain (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) singled to lead off and moved to second on another base hit from Mazza. Damin Muth (Breinigsville/Parkland) worked a one-out walk to load the bases before Brad Smith (Morgantown/Twin Valley) could start the scoring with an RBI single to right. Ravel gave the Huskies a 2-0 edge with a sacrifice fly to score Mazza.

Millersville would tie the game, first getting on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Zach Stone and then knotted the score at 2-2 in the third inning when Stone struck again with another run-scoring single through the left side.

That would be the last of the offense until the ninth as the two starters locked in a pitcher's duel. Matt Jaskolka (Warren/Warren Area) worked 6.1 innings, scattering five hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts and just one walk. McDade (3-1) was strong throughout until faltering in the ninth, lasting 8.2 innings of four-run ball with one walk and six strikeouts.

Heane (2-1) picked up the victory with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. He entered in the bottom of the seventh and had to work out of a jam as the Marauders threatened to walk off with victory. Millersville had runners at the corners with one out when Mark Stuckey attempted to squeeze home the winning run with a bunt down the first base line. Joey Casselberry (Eagleville/Methacton) picked up the ball and threw home where Dan Neff attempted to jump around Baiada who was able to apply the tag in time. Heane then coaxed a ground ball fielder's choice to send the game to extra innings.

Frain and Mazza each had two hits for the Huskies while Stone went 3-for-3 for Millersville.

Next up the Huskies travel to PSAC West opponent Clarion on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader.
