STORYLINEThe Huskies will try to keep the momentum going after an upset of No. 17 Gannon earlier in the week when they travel across the state to Erie for a battle with regionally ranked Mercyhurst on Saturday as PSAC play continues.

Jenna Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) and stellar defense was enough to give the Huskies a 1-0 win over No. 17 Gannon on Wednesday afternoon. Fisher was able to clean up by poking a ball into the open net after a shot from
Maureen Leis (Erdenheim/Springfield) brought the Gannon keeper out of goal.
Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) also assisted on the game-winner. Freshman
Megan Deak (West Islip, NY/West Islip) recorded her first career shutout in just her second start in maroon and gold.

ABOUT THE LAKERSMercyhurst has enjoyed a strong start to the year and currently ranks fifth in the NSCAA Atlantic Region rankings released earlier this week, the highest ranking for the Lakers since 2009. Mercyhurst defeated Mansfield, 2-0, in the season opener before tying with Edinboro, 2-2. In their last time out, the Lakers knocked off Lock Haven, 2-0.

Mercyhurst was picked 12th in the PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing 2013 at 9-9-1. Junior forward Lauren Testa leads the team with three goals and six points while senior midfielder Janine Wong added two goals through the first three matches.

Box Score) Bloomsburg came away with an early season 2-1 win at home over the Lakers on Sept. 7, 2013. Perrin Kern got the Lakers on the board first in the 21st minute off a corner kick, but the Huskies tied it before halftime off a goal from
Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) in the 41st minute.
Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) put in the game winner in the 82nd minute. The Huskies are 3-0-1 against Mercyhurst in the last four meetings between schools.

HISTORY MADEFor the Huskies, their win over Gannon on Wednesday marked the first win over a nationally ranked opponent since the 2010 season when Bloomsburg defeated then No. 23 Kutztown, 2-0, on Nov. 12, 2010.

NEXT UPBloomsburg begins a three-match homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 16 with its first non-conference match of the year against Chestnut Hill. Next weekend the Huskies return to PSAC play by hosting Seton Hill on Sept. 19 and Pitt-Johnstown on Sept. 20.
