STORYLINE
After several delays, the Bloomsburg University baseball team will finally open its 2015 season with a trip south this week to North Carolina to pick up three games Tuesday and Wednesday vs. California (PA) before opening PSAC East play with a conference four-game set with Mansfield in Dinwiddie, Va., over the weekend.

SCOUTING CALIFORNIA (PA)
The Vulcans have played four times so far, going winless in a four-game series at Winston-Salem State this weekend. Saturday's games were heartbreakers for Cal, losing decisions of 2-1 and 4-3 before falling 9-6 and 13-6 on Sunday.

California was selected fourth in the PSAC West Preseason Coaches Poll last month after finishing 25-22 last year, tying for fifth in the Western Division and missing the PSAC Tournament for just the second time since 2001. Cal U brings back just four players from its regular starting nine of a year ago, but a veteran pitching staff gives the Vulcans hopes for a quick start, returning all eight members of its usual 2014 staff.

SCOUTING MANSFIELD
The PSAC East slate starts early as the regularly scheduled four-game series with Mansfield has been moved to Dinwiddie, Va. this weekend. The Mountaineers started their season with a trip to Clearwater, Fla., dropping a 14-6 score on Friday with Walsh (Ohio), a 7-5 decision with No. 7 Seton Hill on Saturday and then a Sunday doubleheader with Upper Iowa, 5-4, and 12-11.

Picked seventh in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches Poll, Mansfield is led by 29th-year head coach Harry Hillson who has 825 career victories. Louis Sick, a senior, led the staff with a 4.04 ERA last year while Second Team All-PSAC East pick Taylor Hillson was the team's top hitter with a .336 batting average as a freshman last spring. Senior Westyn Baylor, a senior outfielder, also hit .329 a year ago.

Mansfield will play four more games in Florida before facing Bloomsburg in Virginia.
