STORY ADJUSTED 5/3 TO REFLECT 4 x 400 RECORD

EAST STROUDSBURG—It was a big finish for the Bloomsburg University women's track and field team at the 2015 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) championships on Saturday. The Huskies captured an individual title with Kate Dodds (Ambler/Upper Dublin) winning the 5k title, while school records were set by Kaylee Caruso (Montoursville/Montoursville) in the triple jump, Morgan Nicholson (Kane/Kane Area) in the javelin and the women's 4 x 400 relay team.

As a team the Huskies finished fifth with 75 points.

Dodds, who had won the 10k title a year ago, dropped down to the 5k distance for this year's championship event and the move paid off. The senior posted a time of 17:35.09 to claim the title by more than eight seconds.  Dodds also won the PSAC Indoor titles in the 3k and 5k events February.

Along with Dodds winning, freshman Hannah Boudreau (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll), who won the PSAC 10k title on Thursday, finished fourth overall in a time of 18:04.45, while Keelan McDonald (Chalfont/Central Bucks West) was 13th in 18:57.55.

While Dodds was winning on the track, new school records were being set on the field.

Sophomore Kaylee Caruso (Montoursville/Montoursville), who won the long jump title on Friday, came back and finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.72 meters (38'5.50"). Caruso fouled on her first attempt; hit 11.39 on her second attempt and went to 11.69 and 11.70 on her next two tries. After a foul, she went 11.72 on her final attempt to break her own school record.

In the javelin, Nicholson broke her own school mark on her first attempt when she threw 41.19. After her next four throws failed to surpass her opening round mark, Nicholson threw 42.98 meters to not only surpass her first throw, but also post and NCAA provisional mark.

One of the team's oldest records fell in the final event of the championship when the 4 x 400 relay team of Alyssa Barthelmes (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst), Sarah Gottschalk (Lancaster/Manheim Township), Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) and Jena Toner (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) posted a time of 3:58.57 to break the mark of 3:59.77 set back in 1982.

In other results, at 1500 meters, Teresa Ortiz (Philadelphia/Saint Huberts) took fifth in 4:41.18 with Lauren Lehman (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) on her heels in sixth in 4:41.25. Also, Erika Edwards (Bethlehem/Notre Dame Green Pond) was 14th in 5:15.47.

In the 400-meter dash Jena Toner (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) was fifth in 57.77, while the 4 x 800 relay team of Amber Csrenko (Macungie/Emmaus), Lehman, Ortiz and Alexis Rankin (Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) took sixth in 9:41.16.

In the discus event Tayler Harkins (Lansdale/North Penn) was fifth in 42.23 meters (138'06"), while Rachel Sullivan was 17th in 31.92 meters (104' 09").
