STORYLINE
Bloomsburg is coming off of a hard-fought loss to PSAC-rival Kutztown on Tuesday night and will be looking to get one back in the win column on Saturday when it travels to winless Pitt-Johnstown. The Huskies enter Saturday's contest with a 5-6-2 overall record and a 4-6-2 conference mark that has them in a tie for 11th place in the league standings - but only four points behind Shippensburg and IUP which are occupying the final two playoff spots. The Lady Cats, meanwhile, are 0-13 overall and 0-12 in the PSAC standings.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Bloomsburg and Pitt-Johnstown have met four previous times in the all-time series with the Huskies winning all four of those contests.
LAST TIME OUT
Bloomsburg fought hard against Kutztown on Tuesday night but fell a goal short, 1-0, at Steph Pettit Stadium. Kutztown scored a goal late in the first half when Cara Griffith one-timed a pass from Emily Zwiercan in the 36th minute. A late scoring opportunity by redshirt senior
Maureen Leis (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) nearly tied the game, but her shot went wide and Kutztown ran out the clock in the final two minutes to close out the game. Kutztown outshot Bloomsburg, 15-9, for the contest. Sophomore goalkeeper
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was impressive after tying a career-high with eight saves in the loss.
Pitt-Johnstown lost to Daemen, 3-1, on Tuesday in non-conference play. The Lady Cats outshot Daemen, 21-9, but could only get a Kyra Watkins goal in the 44th minute that, at the time, tied the game at 1-1. Daemen scored two unanswered goals late in the second half to win the contest. Goalkeeper Leigh Appolonia made the start in goal and posted one save.
LAST MEETING
The two teams last met on October 17 of last season, when the Huskies looked strong in a 4-0 victory against the Lady Cats. The offense was firing on all cylinders early in the game with three of Bloomsburg's four goals being scored in the first 15 minutes.
Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) delivered first in the game with a shot from 18 yards out and
Stephanie Tuccio (Exton/Bishop Shanahan) scored a header off of a corner kick just one minute later. Sanchez added a second goal during the spurt with
Chrissy Hollan (Laurys Station/Parkland) scoring the final tally in the 79th minute. The Huskies outshot Pitt-Johnstown, 37-2. Leigh Appolonia stopped eleven Bloomsburg shots in the loss while
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) did not need to make a save to post the shutout.
