StatisticsNEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Bloomsburg University baseball team will head south this weekend to compete in the Builder Invitational, hosted by the Newport News Apprentice School.

The Huskies will play the host Builders on Thursday, February 25 with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. On Friday, February 26, Bloomsburg will play the College of Saint Joseph (VT) at 9:00 a.m. and then against IUP at 6:00 p.m. while on Saturday, February 27, the Huskies will meet the Golden Bears of Kutztown at 6:00 p.m.

Bloomsburg is scheduled to play again on Sunday, February 28, against an opponent and at a time both to be determined.

The Huskies opened the regular season with a 1-2 record last weekend in Williamston, North Carolina. Bloomsburg defeated IUP, 17-0, last Saturday -  sandwiched between losses to Seton Hill and Pitt-Johnstown.

Junior
Damin Muth (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) had a strong opening weekend for the Huskies at the plate, going 6-for-10 with three doubles and four runs batted in. He also walked three times for a .692 on-base percentage. Sophomore
Tyler Benson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) batted .273 (3-of-11) but led the team with five runs scored and seven runs batted in. Senior
Ryan Kirman (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) led the team with two home runs, both of which came during the 8-7 loss to Pitt-Johnstown last Sunday.

On the mound, sophomore
Mike Warren (Garnerville, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional) had a strong first start of the season, pitching six innings of shutout baseball in the victory over IUP. He allowed five hits and struck out four while not allowing a walk.

As a team, Bloomsburg had a 4.68 earned run average during the three games and allowed opposing batters to hit .297 over the weekend. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg hit .282 as a team but outscored its opponents, 25-19, in the three contests.
