Alex Carpenter (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) pitched a three-hitter and junior
Damin Muth (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) blasted a two-run home run in a three-run fifth inning to lift the Bloomsburg University baseball team to a 4-2 victory over the Crimson Hawks of Indiana (PA) on Friday evening at the Builder Invitational hosted by the Newport News Apprentice School. Bloomsburg is a perfect 3-0 at the invitational and improved to 4-2 on the young season.
Carpenter went the distance and allowed two runs, both unearned, and three hits for his first victory of the season. He walked two and struck out four in, what was, his second collegiate start. His other start came on April 28, 2013 against Clarion - he had made 15 relief appearances over the last two seasons.
Redshirt sophomore
Austin Edgette (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) plated Bloomsburg's first run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Muth drilled an 0-2 slider over the fence in left center for his first round tripper of the season - a two-run shot to complete the Huskies' three-run frame.
Senior
Ryan Kirman (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) drove home his eighth run of the young season with an RBI single in the seventh that plated sophomore
Tyler Benson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township).
Freshman
Ryan Shiffer (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) went 3-for-4 at the plate to help lead the Huskies' offense.

Bloomsburg will look to extend its winning streak to four games when it plays against Kutztown University on Saturday, February 27. First pitch from Newport News is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
