StatisticsSTORYLINEBloomsburg will attempt to snap a four-game losing skid when it plays against second-ranked Millersville in a four-game series this weekend. The Huskies were swept by West Chester last weekend, ending an eight-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Millersville enters on an eight-game winning streak and has only lost three of its first 34 games this season.
ALL-TIME SERIESMillersville leads the all-time series against Bloomsburg, 98-80. The Marauders have won 10 of the last 12 meetings between the two schools.
LAST MEETINGSMillersville swept the season series against Bloomsburg last season. Â In three of the four games, the Marauders scored at least ten runs and scored nine in the other. On April 4, Millersville won 18-0 and 9-6 in Millersville and then completed the sweep with 11-4 and 15-4 wins in Bloomsburg on April 6.
Damin Muth (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) went 6-for-12 in the four games last season.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURGBloomsburg had its eight-game winning streak come to an end last weekend when it suffered a four-game sweep at the hands of West Chester. The Huskies lost by the scores of 9-8 and 10-1 in Bloomsburg last Friday and then dropped 5-4 and 7-2 decisions in West Chester on Monday.
Austin Edgette (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), who continues to swing a scorching hot bat, was named the Co-PSAC East Athlete of the Week on Monday and was the NCBWA's Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week on Wednesday. Edgette went 10-for-15 against the Golden Rams and enters the weekend series with a six-game hitting streak. He has hit safely in 22 of his last 23 games and is batting .578 (48-of-83) during the stretch. He is second in the PSAC in batting average (.484), hits (59), and on-base percentage (.546). Edgette also ranks third in runs scored (45) and tied for fifth in doubles (13).
Joey Casselberry (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) is also having a great season at the plate as he sports a .379 batting average with seven home runs and a team-high 49 RBI. He is second in the PSAC in runs-batted-in.
Ryan Kirman (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) continues to lead the conference in home runs (14) and has tied the school's single-season home run record (Matt Karchner, 1989). Also keep an eye on
Tyler Benson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) (.372, 2 HR, 23 RBI) and
Damin Muth (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) (.348, 9 HR, 40 RBI). As a team, the Huskies are hitting .331 (third in the PSAC). On the mound, the Huskies have a team ERA of 5.53 - eighth in the league. Of the weekend starters,
Zach Meyer (Muncy Valley, Pa./Sullivan County) has a team-best ERA of 5.00 while
Ryuta Amaike (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) leads the squad in strikeouts with 37. Out of the pen,
Ashton Raines (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) (2.35 ERA, three saves) has the best ERA on the team and has pitched in a team-high 10 games.
Zach Newmyer (New Cumberland, Pa./Red Land) has also pitched well, going 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 30.2 innings (eight apperances, three starts).
SCOUTING MILLERSVILLEThe Marauders enter the weekend series with a 31-3 overall record and a 14-2 mark in the PSAC Eastern Division. Millersville has won eight in a row, including a four-game sweep of Lock Haven last Friday and Sunday. The Marauders won 7-1 and 7-4 in Lock Haven on Friday and 12-0 and 5-1 in Millersville on Sunday. The Marauders have a team batting average of .346 - second in the PSAC - and lead the conference with a 3.07 team ERA. The pitching rotation has limited opponents to a .235 batting average this season. Mitch Stoltzfus leads the team, and the conference, with a .504 batting average (58-of-115). He also leads the squad with seven home runs and 43 runs-batted-in. Dan Stoltzfus is batting .422 (54-of-128) with a team-high 14 doubles while Tyler Orris is hitting .412 (56-of-136) with team-highs in runs scored (43) and stolen bases (21). On the mound, all seven pitchers who have pitched at least 14 innings this season have an ERA of 4.17 or lower. Brandon Miller is the focal point of the rotation as he is 6-1 with a 2.14 ERA. He has allowed only 33 hits in 54.2 innings and has struck out 59. Jim McDade is 6-0 with a 2.98 ERA and has walked only one batter in 45.1 innings. Out of the pen, Mike Mock is 1-0 with three saves and a 0.64 ERA. He has struck out 18 batters in 14 innings.
