Men's Swimming Caps Off First Perfect Regular Season In Program History

INDIANA, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's swimming team completed its first undefeated regular season in program history on Saturday night with a convincing 238-112 victory over IUP at the John A. Pidgeon Invitational. The Huskies conclude the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record.

Prior to Saturday evening, the Huskies had never posted an undefeated season since the program started officially in 1959-60.

Sophomore Kyle Dix (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had six victories during the two-day event, claiming two individual wins while being a part of four relay-winning times. Senior Eric Usbeck (Lake Ariel, Pa./Wallenpaupack) had five victories over the weekend (two individual and three relay) while junior Sam Feiser (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) had four wins (one individual and three relay).

Bloomsburg had 51 PSAC-qualifying times during the two-day meet while 11 different swimmers either won an individual event or was part of a relay victory.

The Huskies started strong, claiming a victory in the first eight events of the meet. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Feiser, redshirt junior Ryan Paisley (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area), Usbeck, and Dix posted the winning time of 1:23.63.

Junior Alex McCullough (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) earned his first victory of the weekend in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:49.17. Junior Paul Rocchi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), who won two individual events, won his first of the weekend in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:00.35. Freshman Devon Polak (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) was right behind with a time of 2:00.64 while freshman Jordan Wyant (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) was third with a mark of 2:00.66.

Dix earned his first individual event in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 21.11. The Huskies, in fact, finished 1-2-3-4 in the event with Feiser (21.49), Usbeck (21.54), and Paisley (21.89) coming in second, third, and fourth respectively.

The Huskies then won back-to-back relay events to continue the winning streak. In the 400-yard medley relay, senior A.J. Brady (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy), Usbeck, Feiser, and Dix posted a winning time of 3:27.65 while the team of junior Josh Grzech (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), Usbeck, Feiser, and Dix combined to post a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:34.57.

Rocchi followed with his second victory, posting a win in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:20.95. Junior Frank Dello Buono (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) qualified for the PSAC Championships in the event, finishing third with a time of 4:25.12.

Feiser completed the string of eight consecutive Huskies' wins with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly. He touched the wall in 50.85, just ahead of Dix (50.94) and Usbeck (51.66).

After IUP claimed a win in the 200-yard freestyle, the Huskies got back on track as Usbeck won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.12. Brady followed with a winning time of 52.83 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Dix, Wyant, freshman Doug Boehme (Blue Bell, Pa./Buxmont Christian Academy), and McCullough posted a winning time of 7:13.02 in the 800-yard freestyle relay while junior Logan Winchester (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) led the pack in the 1000-yard freestyle, completing the event in 10:11.43. Boehme (10:13.13) was second while McCullough (10:13.60) was third.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Brady posted a winning time of 1:56.46. Dix followed with his sixth victory of the weekend in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 47.72. Usbeck closed out the Huskies' victories with a time of 2:10.94 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Huskies will hold their Senior Celebration Day on Saturday, February 4 at the Nelson Field House Pool beginning at 12:00 p.m. Bloomsburg will then head to the PSAC Championships in York, Pennsylvania, on February 16 through February 19.
