STORYLINE
The Bloomsburg University baseball team will be back in action as it will play East Stroudsburg University in a pair of home-and-home doubleheaders. The teams will play in East Stroudsburg on Thursday and then will meet in Bloomsburg on Sunday as the schedule was altered due to expected inclement weather this weekend (
LINK). Bloomsburg opened league play last weekend with a split against Shippensburg while East Stroudsburg lost four games to defending conference champion, West Chester.
ALL-TIME SERIES
East Stroudsburg leads the overall series against Bloomsburg, 101-97-3. Last season, the Warriors won all four meetings against the Huskies to take the lead in the all-time series.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Bloomsburg enters the four-game series with a record of 12-9 overall and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division. Last weekend, the Huskies opened league play with a four-game split against Shippensburg. All four games were played in Shippensburg due to unplayable conditions at Danny Litwhiler Field. A trio of freshmen led the Huskies at the plate last weekend -
Chad Cooperman (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) (4-of-11, 2 RBI),
Nate Krizan (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) (4-of-12, 2 RBI), and
Cole Swiger (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) (4-of-12, 2 HR, 3 RBI) - while redshirt senior
Ryuta Amaike (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and junior
Mike Warren (Garnerville, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional) earned the victories on the mound with a pair of solid starts.
On the season, the Huskies rank 12th in the PSAC with a .282 team batting average. Junior
Tyler Benson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) continues to lead the Huskies in hitting as he enters the weekend with a .388 batting average (31-of-80). He also leads the team in runs scored (26), hits (31), doubles (11), total bases (54), slugging percentage (.675), and on-base percentage (.479). Benson is tied for the team lead with four home runs and is second in both runs batted in (19) and stolen bases (6). He is currently tied for second in the conference in runs scored and is tied for the league lead in doubles. Amaike is second on the team with a .351 batting average (27-of-77) but has just one hit in his last 19 at bats. His only hit during the stretch was a two-run single in last Saturday's 7-4 victory over Shippensburg. Senior
Damin Muth (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) is batting .300 (24-of-80) with a team-high 21 runs batted in. He is tied for the team lead, with Benson, in home runs with four.
On the mound, the Huskies have a team earned run average of 5.65 which puts them tenth in the PSAC. Amaike currently leads the team with a 2.20 earned run average and sports a 2-0 record in three appearances (two starts). In 16.1 innings, he has allowed 15 hits and five walks while striking out 20. Zach Meyer (Muncy Valley, Pa./Sullivan County) is 2-1 with a 5.14 ERA in four starts this season while sophomore
Ashton Raines (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) is 2-2 with a 5.56 ERA in five starts. Raines leads the team in complete games (3) and strikeouts (34). Out of the bullpen, freshman
Brett Alaimo (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and sophomore
Jeremy Zezza (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) have pitched well. Alaimo has two saves, a 3.38 ERA, and is limiting opponents to a .139 batting average. Zezza is 1-0 with one save and a 5.40 ERA. He is holding opponents to a .209 average on the season.
SCOUTING EAST STROUDSBURG
The Warriors are 10-10 overall but are 0-4 in the PSAC Eastern Division after losing all four contests to defending PSAC Champion, West Chester, last weekend. East Stroudsburg is 11th in the PSAC in hitting with a .288 team batting average. Ian Allen is having a sensational season at the dish as he leads the team with a .437 batting average (31-of-71) with 11 doubles, five home runs, and 26 runs batted in. He is also 17-of-20 in stolen bases this season. Laine Renaud has appeared in 15 games and is hitting .429 (21-of-49) with a home run and seven runs batted in. Dylan Tamecki is also off to a strong start as he enters with a .389 average (28-of-72) with three home runs and 25 RBI. On the mound, the Warriors are eighth in the PSAC with a 5.36 ERA. Tyler Eckman leads the starting rotation with a miniscule 0.72 ERA in four starts. He is 3-0 and has allowed only two earned runs in 25 innings. Conner Crookham is also having a strong year as he is 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA. He has allowed only 10 hits in 17 innings of work. Out of the pen, Chris Crookham is 2-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA in six appearances. He has allowed only six hits and three walks in 11.1 innings.

The Huskies will play a four-game series against Mansfield on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8. The teams will play in Bloomsburg on Friday and then will meet in Mansfield on Saturday. Start time for both doubleheaders is at 1:00 p.m.
