PREVIEW: Baseball Heads To Slippery Rock For Non-Conference Twinbill Tuesday

STORYLINE
The Huskies step out of conference play for a mid-week doubleheader at Slippery Rock. The Huskies lost three of four against Lock Haven last weekend and will look to get back on track. Bloomsburg is fifth in the PSAC East while The Rock are in a three-way tie for second place in the PSAC West

ALL-TIME SERIES
Slippery Rock leads the all-time series, 13-9. The teams last played on April 19, 2015 with each team winning once at Danny Litwhiler Field. Slippery Rock took game one, 9-1, while Bloomsburg rebounded for a 4-3 win in game two.

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Bloomsburg enters the doubleheader ranked ninth in the PSAC with a .307 team batting average. The Huskies are tied for second in the league in runs scored with 258 and are tied for second in the conference with 36 home runs. Junior Tyler Benson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) is enjoying a sensational season at the plate as he leads the team with a .400 batting average (50-of-125). He is ninth in the conference in batting average while leading the PSAC in runs scored with 41. He is tied for second in the league in hits (50), tied for third in doubles (15), tied for 11th in home runs (6), tied for sixth in runs batted in (34), and is eighth in stolen bases (11). Sophomore Ryan Shiffer (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) is the reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week after going 16-of-30 (.533) with four home runs and 16 runs batted in during a 4-4 week for the Huskies. With the spurt, Shiffer is second on the team with a .339 batting average (40-of-118) and is tied for third on the team with five home runs. He is also second on the squad with 31 runs driven in. Redshirt junior Austin Edgette (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) is hitting .328 (44-of-134) with two home runs and 30 runs batted in. Redshirt senior Ryuta Amaike (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) (.325) and freshman Cole Swiger (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) (.300) also have batting averages at .300 or better on the season. Swiger is tied for the team lead, with Benson, in home runs with six while Amaike is tied for third in round trippers with five.

On the mound, the Huskies are tenth in the PSAC with a 6.06 team earned run average. Amaike leads the staff with a 4-1 record and a 3.51 ERA. He has struck out 38 batters in 33.1 innings and is limiting opponents to a .250 batting average. Junior Mike Warren (Garnerville, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional) sports a 3-3 record with a 5.98 earned run average. He has punched out 46 batters in 46.2 innings. Sophomore Ashton Raines (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) leads the team with 47 strikeouts in 49.1 innings of work. Out of the bullpen, freshman Brett Alaimo (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and sophomore Jeremy Zezza (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) have seen a lot of work. Zezza has appeared in a team-high 11 games and is 1-0 with one save and a 5.30 earned run average. He has struck out 17 batters in 18.2 innings. Alaimo, meanwhile, has pitched in nine games and has four saves and a 4.76 ERA. He has struck out 19 batters in 17 innings.

SCOUTING SLIPPERY ROCK
Slippery Rock is eighth in the PSAC with a .311 team batting average. Luca Fuscardo enters the twinbill ranked fifth in the conference with a .442 batting average (42-of-95). He has seven doubles, one home run, and 26 runs batted in on the season. James Divosevic is second on the team, and 14th in the PSAC, with a .392 batting average (40-of-102). He has seven doubles and is tied for the league lead with four triples. Tyler Walters leads the team with five home runs and is also tops on the squad with 38 runs batted in - fifth in the PSAC. On the mound, The Rock has a team ERA of 5.44 which is eighth-best in the PSAC. Alex Pantuso is the ace of the staff as he enters with a 3-1 record, a 3.43 ERA, and has struck out 59 batters in only 39.1 innings of work. He is tied for third in the league in strikeouts. Preston Falascino leads the team with four wins and is second in the rotation with a 5.40 ERA. Out of the pen, Wyatt Dougherty (11 games) and Josh Coleman (13 games) have been the go-to arms.

UP NEXT
The Huskies will begin a four-game weekend series with PSAC East-leading West Chester on Friday, April 21, in West Chester. The teams will reconvene in Bloomsburg on Saturday, April 22. Both doubleheaders are slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
