Lock Haven, Pa. - Two members of the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team have garnered Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference accolades for their efforts on the court in the 2016-17 season.
Freshman
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) has been named to the All-PSAC First East Team for singles, as well as the PSAC East Freshman of the Year, while her and fellow freshman,
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti), were named to the PSAC East First team for doubles, announced by the league on Wednesday.
Calimer recorded a 6-8 record, including 3-3 in the top singles spot for the Huskies in 2016-17. The freshman from Egg Harbor City, N.J. scored big wins over East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg, as well as won her last three matches of the regular season. In the PSAC Quarterfinals against East Stroudsburg, Calimer scored a 6-2, 6-2 win out of the first flight to help Bloomsburg advance to the semifinals against Mercyhurst.
Calimer and Nery meanwhile, teamed up out of the first doubles slot for the season, going 10-5 overall, with an 8-4 mark in dual matches.
In the PSAC Quarterfinals against the Warriors, the duo registered an 8-1 win out of the top spot, giving them four-consecutive wins dating back to the regular season. Overall, the two teammates won six of their last eight matches, and will look to build off of their strong ending when play resumes next fall.
