STORYLINE
Bloomsburg, ranked sixth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Regional poll, will look to keep climbing the rankings as it takes on Mansfield University in a four-game series this weekend. The two teams will begin the series in Mansfield on Friday afternoon before concluding the series in Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies have won 12 of their last 16 games while the Mountaineers have won just twice in their last ten outings.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Mansfield leads the all-time series against Bloomsburg, 134-113. The Huskies, however, did win three-of-four against the Mountaineers last season. Bloomsburg, in fact, is 24-8 against Mansfield dating back to the 2010 season.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Offensively, the Huskies are third in the PSAC in with a .318 team batting average and ranks second in the league in on-base percentage at .426 - trailing only Lock Haven (.427).
Austin Edgette (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), the reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Week, leads the team with a .437 average (31-of-71) which puts him third in the league. Edgette also leads the team in on-base percentage (.540), slugging percentage (.662), and stolen bases (7). His .540 on-base percentage is second in the conference.
Shane Woelfel (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) is second on the team, fifth in the PSAC, with a .425 average (34-of-80). He leads the team with three home runs and is second in both runs scored (25) and RBI (24).
Cole Swiger (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) has posted a .404 average (36-of-89) which has him third on the team and 12th in the league. He leads the team in runs (26), hits (36), and doubles (12).
Chad Cooperman (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) (18-of-50) is hitting .360 on the season while
Ben Newbert (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Harriton) (19-of-60) comes in with a .317 mark on the year. All nine of Bloomsburg's regulars have scored at least 10 runs and driven in at least 10 runs this season.
On the mound, the Huskies are fourth in the PSAC with a 4.57 team earned run average.
Nick Stoner (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) leads the team with a 2.15 ERA while sporting a 3-0 record on the season. In six appearances (five starts), Stoner has allowed only 15 hits in 29.1 innings (.144 opponent average) while striking out 31.
Ashton Raines (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) is 5-0 on the season with a 2.61 ERA. He has limited the opposition to a .185 average and has struck out 31 batters in a team-high 38 innings. Cooperman has a 3.24 ERA in five starts and has struck out 28 batters in 25 innings. Meanwhile,
JJ Spehrley (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) has emerged as the other weekend starter and is 5-0 with a 3.52 ERA in eight appearances (two starts). He has 20 strikeouts in 23 innings. Out of the bullpen,
Trey Hinkle (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) has been the savior as of late. He had a win and two saves in four appearances against East Stroudsburg last weekend and is now 1-0 with four saves and a 3.65 ERA in eight appearances this season. He has struck out 14 batters in 12.1 innings.
SCOUTING MANSFIELD
At the plate, the Mountaineers are 13th in the PSAC with a .271 batting average and only Kutztown (133), Pitt-Johnstown (127), and Clarion (127) have scored fewer runs than Mansfield's 134. The Mountaineers feature four regulars with a batting average above .300, led by Colby Schearer who is hitting .381 (32-of-84). Schearer also leads the team in hits (32), triples (3), home runs (3), and slugging percentage (.607) while tying for the team lead in RBI (19). Tyler Guidos (26-of-73) is batting .356 with two home runs and 13 RBI and is tied for second on the team with seven doubles. Owen Lukens (27-of-86) comes in with a .314 average and leads with eight doubles while tying for the lead with 19 RBI. J.P. Bonanca (26-of-83) is hitting .313 with two home runs and 14 RBI.
On the mound, Mansfield is 14th in the league with a 7.93 earned run average and opponents are hitting a league-best .331 off of its staff. Evan McAndrew has the best ERA among starters in seven appearances (six starts). He is 0-5 with a 5.23 ERA and leads the team with 34 punchouts in 32.2 innings. Luke Hils has also started six times and is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA. Out of the pen, Bryce Zaparzynski has the team's best ERA at 4.76 in seven appearances. He is 1-0 and has 13 strikeouts in 17 innings. Guidos has both of Mansfield's saves but has a 10.38 ERA in a team-high 10 appearances.

Bloomsburg will step out of divisional play on Tuesday, April 17, when it hosts Slippery Rock University at Danny Litwhiler Field for a mid-week doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
