STORYLINE
The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team will look to keep rolling on Wednesday night as it will be searching for its sixth consecutive win when it heads to Kutztown. The Huskies, ranked 22nd in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll released late Tuesday, are 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division while the Golden Bears are 3-3 overall and 2-3 in divisional play.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Kutztown leads the all-time series against Bloomsburg, 20-14-4. The Huskies have not beaten the Golden Bears since November 12, 2010, in the first round of that year's NCAA Division II playoffs. Since that victory, Bloomsburg is 0-7-2 against Kutztown with both ties coming in the last two seasons.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies have won five straight and enter with seven wins in their first eight matches of the season. Bloomsburg took care of Lock Haven this past Saturday with a 3-0 home win over the Bald Eagles.
Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional),
Maggie McDonald (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), and
Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) all scored for the Huskies while
Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) stopped two shots for her fourth shutout of the season. Bloomsburg has outscored its opponents by a 20-3 margin in the opening eight matches of the year and has received goals from nine different players. Hoelke leads the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points on the year. Varano ranks second in scoring with four goals for eight points while Gebhardt falls behind her with three goals and six points on the season.
Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding),
Maggie McDonald (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), and
Jamie Marsico (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) have recorded two goals this season while
Jessica Milligan (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) andÂ
Christina Podpora (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) each have recorded three helpers on the year. In goal, Hawkins has played all but 31 minutes and is 7-1 with a 0.38 goals against average and an .889 save percentage. She is second in the PSAC in goals against average, fifth in save percentage, and is tied for second with four shutouts. Hawkins has only allowed two goals in the last five contests.
SCOUTING KUTZTOWN
Kutztown enters the contest with a 3-3 overall mark on the year and a 2-3 record against divisional foes. The Golden Bears' last game came on Saturday where it defeated Shippensburg by a score of 5-1. The five goals were a season-high for Kutztown as Maggie Cecere scored the opening two goals while Emily Zwiercan, Gabby Kane, and Kayla Argen scored the final three goals for the Golden Bears. Cecere leads the team in scoring with four goals along with one assist for nine points. Zwiercan has notched three goals for six points on the year. Jenna Bracken has played all but 10 minutes in goal and is 3-3 with a 1.37 goals against average and a .636 save percentage. Bracken ranks in the top ten in the conference in goals against average and shutouts (2).
