STORYLINE
The fifth-ranked Bloomsburg University women's soccer team looks to get back on track Saturday afternoon as it heads to Mansfield to take on the Mountaineers. The Huskies are coming off of a 1-0 double-overtime home loss to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night while Mansfield is 0-2 to start the 2019 season.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Huskies are 18-2-2 lifetime against the Mountaineers. Bloomsburg has won nine straight meetings between the two schools dating back to Mansfield's last victory - a 1-0 win over the Huskies - on October 17, 2009. The Huskies have allowed only two goals to the Mountaineers during the nine-game winning streak. Last season, Bloomsburg and Mansfield opened the season at Steph Pettit Stadium with the Huskies posting a 2-0 win.
Taylor Sneidman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Maggie McDonald (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) had the Bloomsburg goals.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies opened the 2019 campaign with back-to-back 3-0 shutout victories against Edinboro and Goldey-Beacom before their 1-0 double-overtime setback to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night. Bloomsburg got two goals from sophomore
Nicole Varano (Mt. Carmel, Pa./Mt. Carmel) in the win over Edinboro and then got two goals from junior
Jamie Marsico (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) during the blanking of the Lightning. Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) had four saves in each victory and earned the PSAC East Co-Defensive Athlete of the Week for her efforts. Varano leads the Huskies with three goals and six points on the season as she also scored in the win at Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. Marsico is second with two goals for four points while a trio of players - junior
Maggie McDonald (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) (one goal), senior
Jessica Milligan (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (two assists), and junior
Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) (two assists) - have two points apiece. Hawkins in 2-1 with a 0.31 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.
SCOUTING MANSFIELD
Mansfield is 0-2 to start the season and has not scored a goal in the first two games. The Mountaineers were beaten by Daemen, 4-0, on Sunday, September 8, and then dropped a 3-0 decision at 13th-ranked West Chester on Wednesday. Stephanie Moir has started both games in goal for Mansfield and is 0-2 with a 3.50 goals against average.
