LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team battled Rider University in a string of close matches but fell to the Broncs 25-9 in Mid-American Conference (MAC) action, Saturday afternoon.
Cade Balestrini (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) got the Huskies on the board in the 149 pound match as he earned a 5-3 decision over Bryan Miraglia to cut the Rider lead to 10-3. Senior
Alex Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) followed at 157 pounds with a 5-0 decision over Alec Bobchin to pull the Huskies to within four, 10-6.
Following the intermission, the Broncs got a pair of wins at 165 and 174, including a sudden victory at 165.
Gavin Hale (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) battled strong through three periods but Michael WIlson prevailed with 13.3 seconds left in the overtime period.
Bruno Stolfi (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) picked up the final win for the Huskies at 184 pounds as he earned a 7-2 decision over Evan Vazquez.
The Huskies get back to action on Sunday, February 6 as they host Sacred Heart University and York College of Pennsylvania in a tri-match beginning at 1:00 pm. Bloomsburg is hosting its annual Alumni Day on February 6 and will recognize all returning alum between their two matches. Any wrestling alum who wish to attend need to
register by February 4 in order to be recognized and receive free admission to the match.
