INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior Alex Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) is ranked No. 32 in the country for the 157-pound weight division in the latest NCAA coaches ranking that was released by the NCAA on Thursday.
This is the final set of rankings before the conference championships. The rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in each weight class with two coaches from each of the seven conferences.
In addition to being ranked 32nd in the coaches ranking, Carida was ranked No. 28 by the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), which is calculated based on winning percentage, opponent winning percentage and opponent's opponent winning percentage.
Carida finished the season with an overall record of 22-8 and is 13-1 in duals. The senior had a 2-0 day in the team's final match at Edinboro last Sunday by picking up a 12-1 major decision during the dual meet and earning a 17-0 tech fall in the extra matches that were held. Carida was named Co-MAC Wrestler of the Week in early January and was an NCAA Tournament qualifier during the 2019-20 season.
The NCAA also announced the pre-allocation spots for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in its release on Thursday. Each conference tournament was given pre-allocation spots to the championships based on regular season performances by conference wrestlers. The MAC was given a total of 22 pre-allocation spots, including two for Carida's 157-pound division. Each weight class is designated at least four at-large bids.
Carida and the Huskies will travel to Athens, Ohio for the MAC Championships on March 4.
