Dobbins Finishes Fourth; Wrestling Has Strong Day at Princeton Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bloomsburg wrestling team opened the season at the Princeton Open, Sunday. Freshman Caden Dobbins () finished fourth overall at 165 pounds as the Huskies' highest finisher of the day.
 
Dobbins opened the day with a 9-0 major decision in his first bout of the day over Brady Conlin of Rider. He continued in the championship bracket with a 2-0 win over Hassan Khan of NYU before defeating Holden Garcia of Princeton in the quarterfinals. Dobbins dropped a 5-1 decision to Dakota Morris of West Pointe to move to the third-place bout. Dobbins dropped a 13-1 major decision to Hunter Mays of Lehigh in the third-place bout to take fourth overall at 165.
 
Macon Myers (York, Pa./Central York) had a strong debut for the Huskies as he went 3-2 through the 165 bracket as well. After a 9-3 decision loss to Avery Bassett of Lock Haven in the first match of the day, Myers went on to win three-straight matches. Myers picked up his first fall as a Husky as he took down Calvin Pineda of Sacred Heart 31 seconds into the second period for a pin at 3:31. He followed up his pin with a 7-2 decision over Nick Sacco from TCNJ. Myers got his second fall of the day with a pin at 0:47 over Aiden Gaugler of Lock Haven in the consolation round of eight. Myers fell to Tanner Craig of West Point 14-2 to end his day.
 
Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) went 2-2 in the first tournament of the season at 141 pounds. Mason dropped his first match of the, 6-3, to Tyler Morris of West Point and had a bye in the round of 16. Mason picked up his first bonus point win of the year with a 15-0 tech fall (7:00) over Cam Ice of Hofstra. He went back-to-back with a tech fall as he quickly defeated Zach Keal of West Point 15-0 (3:39) to move to the round of eight in the consolation bracket. Mason's day ended with a fall (0:16) to Victor Perlieshi of JWU.
 
Cade Balestrini (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) went 2-2 on the day for the Huskies at 149 pounds. He kicked off the tournament with a 6-4 win over Richie Grungo of Lehigh before defeating Branden Palcko of Rider, 6-3, in the round of 16. Balestrini dropped a 12-2 major decision to Cross Wasilewski before falling to Matt Repos of Lehigh 9-6 in the consolation bracket.
 
Graduate student Bronson Garber (Millersburg, Pa./Upper Dauphin) had a solid day for the Huskies at 125 pounds as he went 2-2 on the day. Garber had a bye through the first round and picked up his first pin of the season over Ethan Titus in the round of 32. Garber got the pin at 6:46, just 14 seconds before the end of the match. After a 21-7 major decision loss to Charlie Farmer of West Point sent Garber to the consolation bracket, Garber kept his day alive with a 12-7 decision over Harrison Gordon of JWU. Garber's day ended with a 18-5 loss to Sheldon Seymour of Lehigh.
 
Anthony DeRosa (Milford, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic) went 1-2 on the day at 174 pounds as he picked up a 8-6 decision over Scott Defex of JWU. Mason Rebuck (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) got a pin in his match as a Husky as he got the fall at 1:27 over Chris Delena of Sacred Heart. Rebuck went 1-2 for the day for Bloomsburg at 197 pounds.
 
Shane Noonan (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) went 1-2 as a heavyweight. He opened the day with a 6-2 decision over Peter Wersinger of TCNJ in the 285-pound bracket. Tyler McCatharn (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) also went 1-2 at the heavy weight as dropped his opening match 4-1 to Sam Sorenson of West Point but rebounded for a 2-0 decision over Adrian Sans of Hofstra in the consolation bracket. Will Morrow went 1-2 on the day for the Huskies at 157 pounds with a 10-3 decision over Mark Metz of West Point in his first bout of the day.
 
The Huskies return to action next Saturday at Wrangle Mania against Sacred Heart and North Carolina State University. Action gets underway at 12:00 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa. at Liberty High School.
