Marcus Disbrow Hiring

Men's Outdoor Track and Field | 6/18/2024 3:38:00 PM

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Head cross country and track & field coach Bernie Empie announced the hiring of Marcus Disbrow as the new assistant coach for the track & field program. The position was established through an NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant and Disbrow will work with the Huskies throwers.

"I am thrilled to have Marcus join the Bloomsburg Athletic family and our track & field program," remarked Coach Empie. "He had a tremendously successful throwing career as an undergraduate student-athlete at Lock Haven and just missed the Olympic Trials standard this year in the hammer throw, as he continues to chase his own competitive dreams. His coaching experience the last four years has prepared him well to lead the Huskies throwers. I'm excited to see him in action with our student-athletes and the level of energy he brings with him. I am confident, with his leadership, our throwers will be looking to do great things."

Disbrow comes to the Huskies after five successful seasons as the throws coach at Lock Haven. He helped with the day-to-day operations of the Bald Eagles track & field team including scheduling practice times, weight room times, and recruiting. Disbrow helped to set up phone calls and visits for potential student-athletes.

During his time at Lock Haven, Disbrow helped to bolster the Bald Eagle throwing program, most recently guiding Peter Bellomo to All-Region honors in the javelin after finishing second at the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships. Throughout his time at LHU, the Bald Eagles consistently had throwers qualify for the PSAC Championships.

A standout thrower in his own right, Disbrow finished his senior season at Lock Haven 25th in the nation in the hammer and finished his career second all-time at Lock Haven in the hammer and fourth all-time in the discus.

"I would like to express my gratitude to Coach Empie, Dr. McFarland, the rest of the search committee for trusting me with this incredible opportunity," remarked Disbrow. "I am excited and honored to be a part of the track and field program with Bloomsburg Athletics. Bloomsburg is an exceptional institution, and I look forward to contributing to the growth and development of the student-athletes."

Bloomsburg was awarded the Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant which allowed the assistant coach position to be created for the men's and women's track & field teams. The Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant provides NCAA funding for the creation of new, full-time assistant coaching positions at NCAA Division II member schools intended to encourage access, recruitment, selection and the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women.

"I'd also like to thank the NCAA for awarding us an NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant that has allowed us to make such a great hire."

Disbrow will begin his tenure at Bloomsburg on July 13.
