BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's swimming team delivered a powerful early-season statement, collecting nine event victories and 19 PSAC-qualifying swims in a PSAC meet against Shippensburg on Saturday.
Jack Drake (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg Area) led the charge with a dominant sprint double, winning both the 50 free (20.48) and 100 fly (50.11) — both PSAC marks. The sprint core followed his lead, as Ian Hamilton (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) (21.09), Daryn Ginter (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) (22.23), Cole Verga (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) (22.35), and Nick Lennon (Wilmington, Del./Saint Marks) (22.47) all hit PSAC standards in the 50 free.
The Huskies swept the 200 free, with Ethan Coffman (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) (1:45.09), Tommy Houck (1:46.04), and Andrew Holmes (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) (1:46.41) all under the PSAC cut. Houck later added another PSAC victory in the 100 free (47.50), while Coffman posted a PSAC time of 48.24 for third.
In the distance events, Michael Huegel (Springfield, Pa./Spriingfield) led a Bloomsburg sweep of the 1000 free, winning in 10:26.65 (PSAC) ahead of McCloskey (10:34.47) and Willard (10:44.04). Brayden Kemezis (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) won the 500 free (5:05.03) and narrowly missed the PSAC standard by less than a second.
Nick Zaffiro (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) took the 200 IM (1:59.13) and Holmes (2:00.06) also hit the PSAC mark. In the 100 back, Matthew Boehme won in 54.23 (PSAC), while Colin Nash (56.02) added key points.
In the 100 breaststroke, Witmer (59.64) and McClurkin (1:01.31) went 1–2 for Bloomsburg, both PSAC qualifiers, followed closely by Buga (1:01.99).
The Huskies' 200 medley relay of Nash, Witmer, Lennon, and Hamilton opened the meet with a strong second-place finish (1:36.85), while the "B" relay of Verga, Buga, Tinsley, and Boehme followed in third (1:38.68).
Despite a late disqualification in the 200 free relay, Bloomsburg capped the day with momentum, flashing one of the meet's fastest splits from Hamilton (21.14).
The Huskies return to the pool on Friday, October 24 when they host West Chester at 5:00 p.m.
