Men's Track & Field Celebrates Senior Day With Strong Showing at the Maroon & Gold Invitational

The honored senior Huskies include Jackson Baldini, Brady Dowell, Caden Dufrene, Josh Leininger, Rich Loughran, Dillon Steffy, and Stephen Suwala.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg men's track & field team competed at Redman Stadium as part of the Maroon & Gold Invitational Friday evening. Overall, the Huskies brought home seven event wins and an additional 13 podium finishes.

As part of the meet, the Bloomsburg track & field program honored members of its senior class. The group includes Jackson Baldini (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg Area), Brady Dowell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township), Caden Dufrene (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run High School), Josh Leininger (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area), Rich Loughran (Ottsville, Pa./Pennridge), Dillon Steffy (Elliotsburg, Pa./West Perry High School), and Stephen Suwala (Brigantine, N.J./Cedar Creek).

How It Happened:
The day started with the throws, as the Huskies got things underway with the shot put. Kaleb Zimmerman (Lancaster, Pa./Garden Spot) took second with a distance of 13.84 meters (45' 5") while Ryan Walker (/) finished fourth with a toss of 12.05 meters (39' 6.5"). In the discus, Zimmerman placed third with a throw of 37.72 meters (123' 9"). Steven Vaughan finished right behind in fourth at 37.40 meters (122' 8"). 

Bloomsburg took first and second in the javelin, headlined by a personal-best effort from Michael Stebila (/). On his first throw, Steblia recorded a distance of 50.62 meters (166' 1") to stand atop the podium. Brian O'Connor (/) took second, throwing for a mark of 49.75 meters (163' 2"). The Huskies' other finishers in the javelin include Matthew Staffin (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) (5th, 48.24 meters), Jackson Baldini (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg Area) (7th, 45.21 meters), Stephen Vaughan (8th, 44.87 meters), Ryan Walker (/) (9th, 43.06 meters), and Aiden Corrigan (/) (12th, 30.49 meters).

Bloomsburg built upon its performances with continued success on the track. The men's 4x100-meter relay opened the track events with a top-spot finish at 42.43, 0.01 off the team's season best. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Justin Herrmann finished in second with a time of 15.39. In the 100 meters, Jaxson Hoffman (/)n and Tyler Leitzel (/) finished in second and third place. Hoffman's runner-up finish came in a time of 11.27, while Leitzel finished narrowly behind at 11.29. Lucas Antal (/) ran a season-best time of 11.71 for seventh in the event while Justin Herrmann was 13th after crossing the line in 12.27. 

In the 400 meters, the Huskies finished with three personal-best performances. Landon Kester () was the leader of that pack, coming in at 51.45 for third place. Bryce Pattillo came across in fifth at 52.24. Evan Mann (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) was the third Bloomsburg runner to post a personal best, coming at 53.38. Finnegan Purtle (/) (6th, 52.99) and Lucas Pearson (/) (9th, 54.54) also competed in the event. Peter Tepper (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) was the leader in the clubhouse for the 800 meters, finishing in first with a time of 1:56.69. Salahudinn Abdul-Hamid (State College/State College Area) finished in fourth for Bloomsburg with a season-best time of 2:01.59. Jordan Mann (Kunkletown, Pa./Palmerton) finished sixth with a time of 2:03.33. Richard Loughran (7th, 2:04.19) and Stephen Suwala (Brigantine, N.J./Cedar Creek) (2:04.59) ran season-best times in the event while Evan Babarsky (Jessup, Pa./Valley View) crossed the line in 2:08.81 for ninth and a personal record. 

The Huskies brought home another one-two finish, this time doing so in the men's 400-meter hurdles. William Burdett (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) claimed the top spot on the podium with a personal-best finish in 57.32. Brady Deivert (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) too second with a time of 58.37. Brady Dowell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) posted his best time of the season with a 1:02.71 finish while Michael Gehman (/) ran 1:05.11 for a new personal best. In the 200 meters, Jalik Hill (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) finished in second place with a time of 22.51. Leitzel finished in fourth after crossing the tape in 22.70. Hoffman was the second Husky to post a personal record, finishing in 22.76 for fifth place. Andrew Kane (/) took seventh in 23.62 while Evan Mann (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) ran a personal record in 23.87 for ninth. Steblia finished 14th in the event with a time of 25.46. In the men's 4x400-meter relay, the Huskies finished third through fifth in 3:27.2, 3:37.11, and 3:40.20, respectively. 

Turning to the distance races, Ryan Casagrande (/) finished the 1500 meters with a sixth-place and personal-best finish of 4:34.90. Zachary Ryan finished in seventh, coming across the line in 4:50.73. In the 5000-meter race, Peyton Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) was the top finisher for Bloomsburg, coming in at fifth with a time of 15:40.47. Caden Dufrene (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run High School) ran a season-best time of 16:04.56 to take seventh. Aaron Simpson (/) finished in a career-best time of 17:58.04 for 12th. Colin Snyder (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) took 13th in 18:16.21.

In the field events, Bloomsburg continued to stack results throughout the evening. In the high jump, the Huskies brought home another two podium spots, with Bryce Pattillo earning an event win, tying with a jump of 1.77 meters (5' 9.75"). Josh Leininger (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) took third with a mark of 1.72 meters (5' 7.75"). In the pole vault, Dillon Steffy (Elliotsburg, Pa./West Perry High School) led Bloomsburg with a fourth-place performance at 3.95 meters (12' 11.5"), edging Tyler Lobos (/) in fifth place with the same mark on attempts. Kane tied his season-best mark with an attempt of 3.80 meters (12' 5.5") for sixth, while Corrigan took seventh with a mark of 3.35 meters (10' 11.75"). 

Daniel Ajuz (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) led a large contingent of Huskies, finishing in first with a mark of 7.08 meters (23' 2.75"). Trevor Johnson (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades, Pa.) took third with a leap of 6.30 meters (20' 8") while Antal finished in fourth at 6.10 meters (20' 0.25"). Leininger (5.77 meters), LJ Lee (/) (5.72 meters), and Andrew Wasilewski (Kulpmont, Pa./Mount Carmel Area High School) (5.16 meters) claimed spots seven through nine. In the triple jump, Johnson and Paul Munoz (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) claimed first and third for the team. Johnson matched his personal-best mark of 13.55 meters (44' 5.5") while Munoz set a new personal best with a mark of 12.48 meters (40' 11.5"). Kester took fourth with a mark of 12.38 meters (40' 7.5").

The Bloomsburg men's track & field team is back in action on Saturday, May 3, for the LHU Qualifier.
