BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's swimming team turned in a dominant performance Friday evening in a tri-meet against Dickinson and Indiana (Pa.), defeating IUP 110–93 and Dickinson 146–57 behind multiple individual victories and strong relay swimming.
Bloomsburg opened the meet with solid relay efforts in the 200-yard medley relay, led by the "A" squad of Tommy Houck,
Sean Witmer (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg),
Nick Lennon (Wilmington, Del./Saint Marks), and
Ethan Coffman (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area), which placed third in 1:38.92. The Huskies added early points with additional finishes from their "B" and "C" relay teams to establish momentum.
Jack Drake (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg Area) set the tone in the individual events by winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.84. Coffman followed with a runner-up finish (1:47.48), while Houck placed fourth to give Bloomsburg three scoring swims in the event.
The Huskies swept the top two spots in the 200-yard individual medley, as
Nick Zaffiro (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) claimed victory in 1:59.86 and Witmer followed closely in second at 2:01.33. Matthew Boehme added a fifth-place finish to further extend Bloomsburg's advantage.
In the sprint events,
Andrew Holmes (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (21.90), with
Ian Hamilton (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) and
Daryn Ginter (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) also contributing points. Drake added another victory by winning the 50-yard butterfly in 22.23, while Lennon and
Tyler Tinsley (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) followed closely behind.
Houck earned a win in the 100-yard freestyle, touching first in 48.40, with Coffman adding a fourth-place finish. In the 500-yard freestyle,
Michael Huegel (Springfield, Pa./Spriingfield) finished second (4:54.24), while
Brayden Kemezis (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and
Luke Willard (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bloomsburg was all over the 50-yard backstroke, with three finishing in the top four.
Colin Nash (Abington, Pa/Abington) had the fastest time and took second at 25.74. Holmes took third while Hamilton finished in fourth. In the 50-yard breaststroke, Witmer finished in second place with a time of 27.41. Ginter and
Constantin Buga (Philadlephia, Pa./Northeast) also showed out in the race.
Bloomsburg closed the meet with a statement performance in the relays. The Huskies captured the 200-yard freestyle relay as Hamilton, Houck, Holmes, and Drake combined for a winning time of 1:26.21. Bloomsburg also secured multiple scoring finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay, highlighted by a second-place finish from the "A" team, sealing both dual victories.
The Huskies will face IUP again in their Last Chance Meet and the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invite on Jan. 17.
