COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Bloomsburg field hockey team moved up to sixth in the week one release of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
The Huskies (2-0) are coming off a successful trip from New Hampshire, capturing two victories against NE10 opposition. Bloomsburg opened its season with a 4-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire before traveling 15 minutes south to knock off No. 6 St. Anselm, 2-0.
Offensively, the Huskies were led by last season's leading goal scorer,
Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs). Bush began her senior campaign with three goals, tallying two against the SNHU and finding one against the Hawks. She was supported on the attacking front in the season opener with two goals from
Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia), along with assists from
Alli Bucher (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove),
Kaylyn Elliott (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights),
Raegan Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton), and
Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport). In the team's second contest, Iasiello found the back of the cage for the opener against St. Anselm, while Bush added an insurance goal in the third period, assisted by Bucher.
On the defensive side of the field, Bloomsburg came away with a pair of shutouts to begin the campaign. Goalkeeper
Molly Bross (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) anchored the stalwart effort, as the junior made 13 saves in her first two collegiate appearances.
On the Horizon:
The Huskies will take the field for their home opener on Wednesday, November 9, at 4:00 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium, continuing the run against NE10 opposition with a matchup against Adelphi.
