BUFFALO, NY-- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team swept three matches on Sunday at the University at Buffalo Duals. The Huskies beat Findlay, 33-6; Niagara County Community College, 45-5; and Buffalo by a 21-16 score.
In the match with Findlay the Huskies picked up wins in eight of the 10 bouts with 19th-ranked Rick Schmelyun (New Oxford/Bermudian Springs ) (New Oxford/Bermudian Springs) winning by fall at 165 and fourth-ranked Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) at 157 winning by technical fall. In addition, Jason Guffey (Muncy/Warrior Run) (Muncy/Warrior Run) at 125 and Josh Roosa (Mountaintop/Crestwood) (Mountain Top/Crestwood) at 149 both won by major decision.
In the match with Niagara Community College the Huskies won nine of the 10 bouts with four of the nine wins by fall. Niagara was penalized one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The final match of the day was against Buffalo. The Huskies opened the match with Guffey posting an 8-2 victory at 125. Buffalo the posted wins at 133 and 141 to grab a 10-3 lead.
Bloomsburg then rallied starting with Roosa at 149 who beat 19th-ranked Desi Green by a 3-2 score. Moley then followed with a 7-2 win at 157 to make it a 10-9 match with five bouts to go.
Schmelyun put the Huskies on top by getting his second pin of the day at 165, followed by Nate Graham (Selkirk, NY/Ravena) (Selkirk, NY/Ravena) winning by decision at 174 for an 18-10 Bloomsburg lead. The Bulls would come back and take the next two bouts to make it an 18-16 score going to the final match.
At heavyweight Zac Walsh (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) earned an 8-4 victory to give the Huskies their seventh victory against just two losses
