BLOOMSBURG – It's been an exciting season thus far for the Bloomsburg University men's and women's swimming teams filled with long bus trips and record-breaking swims. The Huskies return to action and will enjoy a meet at their home pool on Sunday, Nov. 18 as they host Dickinson College at the Nelson Field House Pool beginning at 1 p.m.
On the men's side, the Huskies have had 12 swimmers qualify for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)'s so far this season; 11 have qualified for more than one event.
Bloomsburg is coming off its meet against Clarion. The Huskies dominated the backstroke at the meet sweeping not just the 100, but also the 200 events. In the 100,
Nick Angeny (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) was first with a mark of 55.73, while
Bill Urban (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) finished second in 55.95 and
Aaron Cancro (Limerick/Spring-Ford) third in 56.34 seconds. In the 200, Cancro touched first in 2:02.70, while Angeny was second in 2:04.34 and
Alex Otero (Allentown/Parkland) third in 2:04.45.
In the distance events, sophomore
Brandon Sherbo (Etters/Red Land) was dominant against the Golden Eagles, taking first in the 1650-free in 16:42.10, winning by more than 22 seconds. In the 500-free Sherbo was also first in 4:48.75.
Freshman
Jake Harner (Philadelphia/Father Judge) turned in another solid meet, winning the 100-breast in 59.07 seconds, while also winning the 200-breast in 2:12.77. He capped off the day with a win in the 400-IM in 4:20.32.
In addition,
Mark DiLemmo (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) won the 200-fly in 2:01.55 with
Tom Malloy (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) second in 2:01.70. DiLemmo also took second in the 100-fly in 54.41 seconds. In the 100-free,
Bryan Masilotti (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) was second in 49.23 seconds and third in the 50-free in 22.05.
The Dickinson men's swimming team, 5-0, posted three wins on Nov. 10 with a 128-76 decision over York, and 137-65 and 130-74 scores over Susquehanna and St. Mary's.
Jason Adams claimed individual wins in the 50-free (22.08) and the 200-backstroke (2:01.47), and swam the lead leg of the 400 medley relay. In the 200-breaststroke, Bogdan Grebenyuk was victorious with a 2:10.71 mark, while David McCormick was second in 2:14.39.
On the women's side, senior distance swimmer
Bridget Hilferty (Royersford/Perkiomen Valley) led the Huskies in the Clarion meet. She continued her strong season in the distance events, winning both the 1650- and 500-free events. In the 1650 she turned in a mark of 17:58.64, while in the 500 she won with a time of 5:17.03.
The Huskies have had 14 swimmers qualify for PSAC's so far this season; five have qualified for more than one event.
Freshman
Morgan Johnston (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) wasted no time showing her talent in her first collegiate swim earlier this season. Johnston won the 100-breaststroke in a time of 1:10.48 and should continue to see time in dual meets throughout the season.
Against Clarion,
Kaci McIlmoyle (Landenberg/Avon Grove) finished second in the 400-IM in 4:46.86; third in the 200-back in 2:14.46 and third in the 200-fly in 2:16.60.
In the 100-fly,
Kelsey Brooker (Stevens/Cocalico) tied for first with a mark of 1:01.22, while
Ashley Dix (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) was second in the 50-free in 25.62 seconds and third in the 100-free in 55.63 seconds.
The Dickinson women's swimming team was victorious against York, 143-60, but dropped a 115-87 decision to Susquehanna and fell to St. Mary's, 117-89 on Nov. 10. The top swimmer on the day for the Red Devils was Caitlin Klockner. She captured the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events, posting times of 55.76 and 1:59.80. She anchored the 400-free relay to second as well with a time of 3:50.92.
Sunday marks the final meet for the Huskies before the Thanksgiving break. They return to action on Nov. 30 at the Akron Invitational.
