BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University men's swimming team swam well throughout the entire meet on Sunday as it picked up a 135-115 victory over Dickinson College at the Nelson Field House Pool.
The Huskies (3-3) handed the Red Devils (5-1) their first loss of the season while avenging a heart-breaking one-point loss at Dickinson last year.
Freshman
Jake Harner (Philadelphia/Father Judge) picked up his team-leading seventh Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-qualifying time. Along with winning the 100-breast in 1:00.29, Harner was Bloomsburg's top finisher in the 200-IM, the 26th of 28 overall events swam Sunday. He finished in 2:01.29 and used a strong opening leg to secure his second individual medley PSAC time.
Harner now has PSAC cuts in the 100-free, 200-free, 100-breast, 200-breast, 100-fly, 200-IM, and 400-IM.
Sophomore
Cole Underwood (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) achieved his fourth PSAC cut with a second-place finish behind BU's
Alex Otero (Allentown/Parkland) in the 200-free. Underwood turned in his best time of the season in the event at 1:52.08 as he has now qualified in the 200-, 500-, 1000-, and 1650-free.
Otero won the 200-free in 1:49.21 and was one of three BU top finishers in the 200-back with a third-place finish (2:04.23).
Senior tri-captain
Jeremy Frey (Pipersville/Central Bucks East) won the 200-back, beating out Bloomsburg's
Aaron Cancro (Limerick/Spring-Ford) (2:03.92) and Otero. Frey's mark came below the PSAC qualifying time by nearly three seconds.
Sophomore
Brandon Sherbo (Etters/Red Land) had a pair of victories on Sunday. He won the 1000-free (9:59.42) and 500-free (4:49.55) and continues to turn in strong times for the Huskies.
Junior
Tom Malloy (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) also swam well in helping Bloomsburg win two of its last three meets. Malloy won the 200-fly in 2:02.42 as he already qualified for PSAC's in the event earlier this season.
Fellow junior
Bryan Masilotti (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) won for the Huskies in the 100-free. His 23.67 opening leg got Masilotti out front as he cruised to a one-second victory in 49.4 seconds.
Bloomsburg takes the next week off from competition before the Akron Invitational on Friday, Nov. 30.
