Men's Swimming Remains Unbeaten With Win Over Clarion Saturday

Complete Results

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's swimming team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 120-81 victory over visiting Clarion University at the Nelson Field House Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies had six different swimmers post either an individual or a relay win and, all told, had 26 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times against the Golden Eagles.

Junior Sam Feiser (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) had a big day for the Huskies as he won two individual events and added another victory as part of Bloomsburg's winning 400-yard medley relay team. Freshman Doug Boehme (Blue Bell, Pa./Buxmont Christian Academy) dominated the distance events and had two wins and a second-place finish in the longer races of the day. Sophomore Kyle Dix (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was also a multiple-event winner, claiming victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 400-yard medley relay.

Freshman Jordan Wyant (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity), redshirt junior Ryan Paisley (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area), and senior Eric Usbeck (Lake Ariel, Pa./Wallenpaupack) also had wins on Saturday.

"We had a lot of great swims today," said head coach Stu Marvin. "I'm very happy with where we are in our training. We are only three weeks away from our mid-season taper meet and the team is really confident."

The Huskies started the day with a 1-2 finish in the 400-yard medley relay event. The team of Paisley, Usbeck, Feiser, and Dix (3:27.74) was able to out-touch the second-place team of senior A.J. Brady (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy), junior Paul Rocchi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), freshman Colin Bauer (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), and junior Josh Grzech (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) (3:32.46) by just under five seconds.

It was Boehme's turn to shine as he posted back-to-back first-place finishes in the 1650-yard freestyle and the 1000-yard freestyle. He had PSAC qualifying times in both events as he finished the 1650 in 16:54.90 and the 1000 in 10:14.00. Junior Logan Winchester (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) finished second in both races, also posting PSAC qualifying times in both.

Bloomsburg had a stellar showing in the 50-yard freestyle as the Huskies had five swimmers post PSAC qualifying times. Feiser won the event in 21.35 while Bauer was second in 21.98. Grzech, Usbeck, and junior Alex McCullough (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) also qualified for the conference meet.

Dix posted his victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.20. Wyant finished third in 2:00.33. Feiser followed with his third win of the afternoon in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 51.49. Freshman Sean Finias (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) was second with a time of 54.46 while Brady was third with a time of 55.18.

The Huskies then went 1-2 in the 100-yard freestyle with Wyant (47.40) edging fellow freshman, Devon Polak (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) (48.24), by less than a second. The next two events had the Huskies have swimmers place second, third, and fourth in each race. Grzech, Rocchi, and freshman Kevin Durning (Glenolden, Pa./La Salle College) turned the trick in the 100-yard backstroke while Boehme, McCullough, and Winchester scored well in the 500-yard freestyle.

Rocchi and freshman Matt O'Donnell (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) finished second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke and freshman Liam Schroeder (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) had a PSAC qualifying time in the 400-yard individual medley to close out the day.

Most of the Huskies' final swimmers and relay teams swam as exhibitions as Bloomsburg had enough points to clinch the dual victory.

The Huskies return to action next Saturday, November 19 when they travel to Carlisle, Pennsylvania to swim against Dickinson College. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
