BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University baseball team will have to wait another day to close out its four-game series with Lock Haven University as it was announced today that the doubleheader, scheduled to be played on Sunday afternoon, has been pushed back to Monday, April 29, due to inclement weather. First pitch from Danny Litwhiler Field will be thrown at 1:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Huskies opened the four-game set against the Bald Eagles on a high note as they won both games of a doubleheader in Lock Haven. Bloomsburg took game one by an 11-0 final behind the performances from seniors
Ashton Raines (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and
Ryan Shiffer (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South). Raines tossed a one-hit shutout and became the school's all-time leader in career strikeouts while Shiffer went 3-for-3 with five runs batted in, including a grand slam home run during the Huskies' seven-run second inning. Bloomsburg completed the sweep with a 5-4 victory in game two as junior
Nate Krizan (Montoursville, Pa./Home School) ripped a go-ahead double in the top of the fifth to break a 4-4 tie. Seniors
Trey Hinkle (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and
Zach Newmyer (New Cumberland, Pa./Red Land) slammed the door on Lock Haven's offense by retiring the final six batters in order.
Bloomsburg has won 18 of its last 22 games and currently sits firmly in second place in the PSAC Eastern Division with a 16-6 league mark. The Huskies, who improved to a ridiculous 21-3 on the road with the victories on Saturday, are third according to the first NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional rankings released last Wednesday.
The postponement sets up an extremely hectic week for the Huskies as they will have eight games on the schedule. Following Monday's twinbill against the Bald Eagles, Bloomsburg is scheduled to travel to Le Moyne for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 30, before embarking on a four-game series against West Chester on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, to close out the regular season. The teams will open in West Chester on Friday and then wrap up the series on Saturday at Danny Litwhiler Field. Saturday's doubleheader will serve as Senior Day for the Huskies.
